Am I going crazy?

My obsession with my hair started about 4 years ago. Out of the blue, a friend told me he could see my scalp through my hair, right at the cowlick I have on the back of my head.

Here is a picture I took in mid-2005 of the top of my head, where my friend said he could see my scalp. My hair is fairly long at the time...

Here are some pictures from now, 2007. I just recently cut my hair short (less than an inch long). I have never had my hair this short in my life and am not used to how it looks, and was alarmed at the spot of scalp I saw at my cowlick...

Without flash...

When wet, without flash, under a super bright light...

And here is what's throwing me for a loop, its a picture of me at 15. It's a very tiny pic, but you can see the top of my head and clearly see a bit of scalp showing at my cowlick. http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/3561/allgne1ld.jpg

Is it possible it's always been this way? If so, what causes this odd and sparse growing pattern? Or, is it the signs of hair loss? Am I just going crazy and worrying over nothing?

Before his remark I never would have thought I was losing my hair, but since then I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I feel like my life is completely consumed by this obsession. I would do anything to just stop worrying all the time.

Hmm....you look almost like you have the same kind of thinning as me. What's odd is your hair doesn't look like it's got worse since you took that photo in 2005 - hell, it actually looks better!

But as you point out, your hair always seems to have looked like that. Odd.

Do you have much male pattern baldness in your family?

hmm strange one. i don't think it's got worse. actually, as Stu says, it looks improved from the long 2005 pic.

i dont think its anything to worry about, i see guys with this kinda thing all the time. and there was no way you were going bald at 15 lol..

do you notice much hair in the shower/pillow ?

If you think you're losing your hair, but not sure, I would ask a dermotoligist for a professional opinion (no offense to the senior posters on this board intended). If you are, you can consider some of the many treatments available.

As far as stressing about it I would cut that sh*t out right now my friend. Take that stress and spend it at the gym. Turn it into something positive. Get buff and the chicks will dig you with or without. :)

There is no male pattern baldness in my family on my mom or dad's side. No drastic loss in the pillows or shower either. All the rest of my hair is very thick and healthy except for that spot at my cowlick. Is it possible that the cowlick is responsible for the odd growing pattern and appearance of the hair there?

I think you need to quit worrying about your hair and bust some weights, it's part of a bigger lifestyle change and it will also benefit your hair (dht wise). Eat clean, take green tea and for goodness sakes do some shoulder presses. Im not trying to be insensetive here but if you add some meat to that frame you might not worry about your hair so much.

A simple solution might just be to do away with the cowlick, slick it all back Ditka style.

What is it with this sh*t that because we're losing our hair we must all turn into bodybuilders? I hear it so many times on this site "just shave it all off and get down the gym and get a buff body"
Its turning into a sad stereotypical theory.

Cause if you're fit, girls pay less attention to your hairline. YOu never really see hair getting the pussy either way. It's the stuff you work for, not that stuff you were born with or without.

Well duh, but the point I was making is people say its pathetic to worry about your hair then suggest that you concentrate on working on your body, its a total contradiction.
But a good body does'nt count for that much anyway unless you live on a nudist camp. When it comes to physical attraction its 90% from the neck up. The features you were born with are what counts most.
