Near the end of 2005 when I was 19 y/o my work collegues started commenting on my 'bald spot' when I would be in the office working on the computer. This would be at night wen there was a light on above my head. Th hair was definietly thin on my crown. It is not as noticable during the day. My Dad start losing his hair on his vertex when he was only 25. He is 40 now and only has his frontal hairline left. I thought I must be starting male pattern baldness even earlier than him.

However more than 3 years have passed and it is not all that different. I have been thinking that my hair is falling out really slowly. I shaved my head to a #4 recently and was surprised that there was no bald spot and my hair coverage ws even all over. My Mum and Dad commented saying its good to see Im not losing my hair. It just seems like my actual strands of hair have thinned out a lot and not actually fallen out? I dont understand. Is this meant to happen? When my hair is a bit longer it definitely looks like IM losing it. Also I always read of people seeing their hair go down the drain etc. when showering but I have never experienced this.

Any help info on this would be much appcreciated.

It does'nt sound like, if you've been watching it for 3 yrs and cant see any definate progression.

Then I wonder why my hair is not as thick anymore? My mum says my crown is the worst part but it is thinner overall compared to what it used to be.

Because you're not a pre pubescent child anymore. Hardly any grown man will have the great hair he had as a teen but that does'nt mean that you're going bald.

OK I will find a camera tomorrow and take some pics. Anyway, it is very similar to this photo.

If that is a picture of you, then I would say yes it appears your crown area is thinning, and if you care to, I would suggest the standard finasteride/Minoxidil/Nizoral regimen. Also according to your description it appears you are just a general diffuser or only affected in the crown area--so you should respond better typically to the above treatment.

Re: Am I going bald????

the thinning leads to balding

the thinning is the miniaturization of the individual hair follicles

if i were you i would go on the big 3 and give it 6-9 months and look for improvements in your situation

the sooner the better it looks like your crown is thinning 3" diameter

I don't know. It looks like a cowlick. It looks like it could be alopecia areata. I've never seen an off center bald spot like that before.

Re: Am I going bald????

Sorry for the confusion that photo was what I thought mine looked similar to. Here are some photos I took. One is under normal lighting and the other with a light source on.

IS this normal after more than 3 years? It really hasn't changed that much. I have been hoping that it is something other than male pattern baldness but I would rathe know that I can expect more loss and not worry about it than to keep my hopes up and be disappointed later.

Thanks agan for everyones input.

it doesn't look bad but the question is do you wait for it to get worse OR do something about it now and possibly thicken it up and prevent further loss
