Am I going bald? Pt. 2 (yes, another one)

You're balding. Go to a dermatologist to get a professional opinion, but he'll tell you the same thing. Get a prescription for propecia or try the generics if you can't afford it. You're in the very early stages and it looks like it'll progress slowly, but it's always better to start treatments as early as you can.

Yeah, it has undeniably receded, but is it still within the realm of possibility that it could be a maturing hairline? The rest of my hair is pretty thick and I can't think of anyone in my family who has gone bald prematurely.

I'm going to a dermatologist anyway to get the final word.

The slight recession in the temples tells me it's male pattern baldness, but theoretically your hair could stay like that for another 10, 15, 20 years, without anymore recession. Although the fact that it's started so earlier could be a sign of further loss to come sooner rather than later (but again you never really know), so I feel it's always a good thing to start treatments early if cost isn't an issue. Just be sure not to be shy with your dermatologist and ask all the questions you can. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, I have a full head of hair with early recession in the temples and my dermatologist diagnosed it as male pattern baldness right away and prescribed propecia for me.

not everyone has a perfect hairline.. alot of people have graduated ones. like in this case. however i would guess ur a very slow loser. so in ten years you have lost say an inch you could jump on meds. but as i say you will have it slow and if at all. ull never be a nw7 or anything. id guess a thick nw3 by ur 60 lol

Those little baby hairs that you have at the front seem suspect. I have those hairs too. Does anyone think those hairs seem normal to have? I am just wondering because I have alot them in the front and I always wondering if those hairs are just miniaturizing.

i think everyone has those hairs, in my family, i have them, my dad has them, my brother has them, and my dad is in no way balding or my brother for that matter

Buzzed my head about two weeks ago. Did it myself so it's probably a bit uneven. First time I've ever had one, so my scalp is pretty white.

My hairline looks better with a buzz, but now my hair looks thin under the light. It looks fine normally, but I can get myself to look pretty bald at the right angle. Weird. I really hope it's just the light because I never thought of myself as having thin hair before. Going to a dermatologist on Friday to be sure.

I think it may be worth noting that this last pic isn't really indicative of my hair. If I get the angle right, i can make it look close to that on the sides and the front of my hair.

EDIT: just recreated the conditions for the side of my head and it looks just as "bald" as the top...

You're not going bald. It is possible that ten or fifteen years down the road you may be around a NW3, but then again, you may just have a natural widow's peak/rounded hair-line and may be a NW2 at 50. In either case, you have nothing to worry about.

Trust me, if you're really going bald--and I mean you are destined to be prematurely bald, not bald in old age--then you will know it.

Jbald, your hair looks great, why all this anxiety?

If you have doubts, go see a doctor. An Internet forum is not the best place to evaluate your situation.
