Am I candidate for the Big 3? (Pictures)

History:

Age 31
Got the receding hair line in my early 20's. Ten years later not much has changed;although I may have receded slightly more on the sides, but not much. There's a bump on the top of my head that just recently formed. Do not know how or what the hell it is. But I have no bald spots on the top of my head. What do you think?

you've receded a bit, but only a little. If it's not changed much in 10 years, it may not get any worse. I would take a photo every 6 months or so to see if it is progressing.

You could try to regrow the small parts you've lost by using Rogaine, if it bothers you.

As for the bump, I couldn't really see what you were talking about. I've never heard of something like that being connected to hairloss ... does it hurt? If it persists, you should go and see your doctor really...

Thanks. My roommate says the same thing and thinks I'm being overly dramatic for worrying about it. I just wanted to start medication now so I won't really be on my mind at all. Basically, I feel I really messed up my twenties. Didnt do the things I wanted and needed to. Now that I'm in my 30s I wanna wash the last decade down the drain and start over and the last thing I need to worry about is going bald....Anyway, that's another forum. Lol.

About the bump on the top of my head, I really have no idea on what the hell it is. Maybe a big cyst? And it doesn't hurt at all. It appears to be about the size of of a silver dollar and it's located right above my forehead. If you look closely you can see it. At first I thought it was a bald spot until I noticed there was no hair missing but instead a big lump. I actually have another one that's about the size of a quarter behind my left ear on the back of my head. I'm gonna see a dermatologist tomorrow and my regular doctor next month. I saw my reg. Doctor about a year ago to ask him about the smaller bump and he said "it's nothing".

Thanks Lucky. I may just start using Rogaine or might take propecia as well for some insurance, not sure yet. I see my dermatologist tomorrow. She may turn my prescription down if she sees I'm not a candidate yet.

Is it true that Rogaine and Rogaine foam does not help you grow your receded hair on the sides and temples? Cause that's mainly where I'd need to fill in.

getting on Propecia (finasteride) IMO is good enough for insurance purpose. Before you start, you should know that there is a chance you might experience some sides and some people report that finasteride can lead to other problems. You can always give minoxidil foam a try since its very easy to use. If it doesn't help you much, you can just drop it. Nizoral is a good shampoo to condition your scalp, I personally use it 3 times a week.

Maybe in my case it should be The Big 2? Propecia and nizoral shampoon two or three times a week, although I'll keep minoxidil foam in mind as well. I see my dermatoloist tomorrow. I'll get back and tell you guys what she says.

it can regrow there,the clinical studies only concentrated on the crown so they cant legally claim it regrows temples/hairline.....it is harder though to regrow there than the crown...........your hair looks good and id question if ya need any meds at all.........

But i mean if you've been shedding alot lately and it just feels like its thinning then there might be cause for concern. Yeah I know I'm not in bad shape for now, I just wanna make sure it stays like this. I guess it may have to do with me leaving my twenties and hitting my thirties, that's when this became a concern. I remembered Jude Law when he was in The Talented Mr.Ripley, the guy was in his late twenties when he made that film and he had a fairly full head of hair. Now at age 34 he looks like Phil Collins. I just don't wanna have to go thru all at, although at my age the chances are I PROBABLY won't, but if I do I will kick myself in the *** for not take earlier precautions. Maybe I should stop buzzing it and grow it out, this way I won't be able to see every detail in such a*** fashion. :crazy:

Most of you guys seem to really think propecia may not be the answer right now and I'm seriously starting to reconsider, although I still think I'd "feel" better with some kind of protection. Dont wanna be a sitting duck and then one day BAM it hits me without me even looking.

Yeah I hear what you're saying. I saw my dermatologist today. She said I wasn't exactly a classic case candidate for propecia but if I wanted to maintain the hair I have she didn't see a problem with it and said she knows quite a few people who had great results with it. She offered to give me a 6 weeks sample supply but I told her I was gonna hold off on that for a while. She recommended nioxin. I asked her about nizoral and she said it wasn't meant to fight hair loss but if I was suffering dandruff (which I always have) then she said it would be good.

I'm still considering propecia but I will hold off for a while and maybe just keep a close watch.
