Yep, hate to say it. Do you have any maternal uncles? Or do you know what the hair of your mom's dad was like? Good chance you caught it from that side.

Sadly, yes. I think you need to see a doctor. Perhaps, vitamins or other treatment may help. If you start therapy right now, it will be possible to prevent future hair loss and slow it down.
You must do this immediately, do not wait until it gets worse.

yeah found an old pic of moms dad and he was bald at 60, but who knows how it was at 40 or 50..

so i should hop on finasteride regardless of what the dermatologist says?

Yes just go on finasteride and Nizoral. Your thinning is very very minor and thinning at the crown responds best to treatments.

Hmmm try this then. Take a shower then comb your hair forward when it's wet. This will truly reveal what's going on. Are you shedding a lot of hair in the shower (Like 20+ hairs)?

Isn't it normal to lose up to a 100 hairs in the shower?

Also, won't everyone's hair, especially the crown area, look thin when wet?

It's "normal" to lose 100 hairs a day, but you shouldn't be losing all of that in the shower alone. You gotta remember that you're losing hair throughout the day without even noticing (walking down a hallway, styling your hair, etc) so losing 100 in the shower alone is a little concerning.

Get on finasteride and minoxidil 5%. And ketoconazole 2% shampoo twice a week. Start now and not when it's to late.

Yeah that's a good point, but i'd say washing the hair is the most 'stressful' part of the day for the hair, as it gets tugged, pulled etc, so you're going to notice more hairs in the shower than anywhere else.

Also, I used to think I was losing 10/15 hairs in the shower, based on what was on the floor and on my hands etc, it's only when I put one of those plughole hair blockers that I realised I was losing more than that, but still very acceptable levels.

To the OP, I would advise getting your hair checked out by a doctor/specialist/dermatoligist/trichologist before you make any decisions on medication. Also, try and take a better pic of your crown with no flash.

At least you're catching it early! I know I wish I did, and probably the majority of people reading this.

Your hair loss is no doubt completely undetectable at the moment, judging from the 2nd picture, but from the 1st picture you can see a handful of little chunks of hair that should be more consistent, on the one to the furthest right, you can see a little advancement further down the head.

I'm not trying to freak you out but just explain it, that this probably won't just stop for no reason. What I'd suggest is to go easy on your regiment, and monitor it every 3 months or so, you don't want to jump all in on finasteride minoxidil nizoral and then in 3 years if that regiment starts to do nothing you'll have nowhere to turn to except a transplant.

I'd recommend minoxidil to maintain, see how it goes for 6 months to 1 year, examine the pictures and pick them apart as I did above, and if you're maintaining, keep at that until it stops working- which it will, but you might at the most get 3-5 years out of it.

Of course if you have a dermatologist available, seek their advice before mine.

Some of you guys are so ****ing paranoid. He's not balding, and you can't even tell he is.
just because he's showing some scalp under a bright light doesn't mean he's balding.
I can show you a thousand pictures that look like I'm balding under bright light and I still wouldn't be.

It's really starting to get ****ed up in this forum, people recommending strong medicine to people who arent even balding.

If you're really concerned then I would start providing a good detailed picture of both your hairline and crown again, but don't trust any of these opinions before that.
And if you go to a balding forum then you will almost always get the response that you are in fact balding, even if you're not.
