Aged 20. Hair is quite thick . I used to have a better hairline last year (no obvious recession although my hairline has always been a bit uneven) . Noticed it slightly receed about 6 months ago. It’s stayed the same since then. My hair is quite thick so it’s not noticeable. I reckon I would get a hair transplant ,if it gets way worse but I’m too young yet.
My dad went bald in his mid 20s.

I'd say you're like a Norwood 1.5, if you hop on finasteride now, you'll preserve it for a long time and you wont need a transplant ever, there's a low chance you will get sides considering you're probably fully developed by the age of 20. Just go see a Dr/ derm, get them to check it out, and get a finasteride prescription, and you'll be good

Ok thanks. So you would say it’s definitely the early stages of balding?
what do you mean by sides?

the reason why I’m holding off from finesteride /opt for a transplant are because of the possible side effects to be honest ,if I can keep a solid amount of hair till 25 I wouldn’t mind. I would hop on finesteride as a last resort kinda thing. So ,if I became norwood 3 kinda thing before 25 I would get on finesteride

Sides = side effects. You've got some thinning going on in your temples ,that's why I think it's the early stages of recession. Also your left temple looks to be a bit further back than your right. Like I said, there's so many people who have taken finasteride at the earliest stages of balding, and don't have to worry about their hairloss anymore. If you read through this forum a bit more, you'll find that loads of people regret not taking finasteride at the earliest stages, because they'll end up taking it later on regardless.

You also need to take finasteride before a transplant. If I were you, and worried about balding, I'd see my doctor or a derm, and get them to check it out too.

Oh ok I’m dumb XD

it has always been like that tbf. My left has been fuller than my right since childhood.

Ok I’ll take a look. One what time scale am I looking at till I get to like norwood 3 or is it hard to tell? As I’ve been like this for 6months now.

Yh I’ll defo see a doctor I just have to wait until covid has calmed down a bit as I’m based in the U.K. and we are in lockdown .

Lol, I couldn't tell you how long till you're a Norwood 3, but I went from a NW1 to a NW2 in 6 months, from age 17 to 18, just depends on your genetics.

Dam that was quick .what are you doing right now to prevent it from getting worse?

I will just keep an eye on it but I’m going to hold off finesteride until it gets worse tbh.
Is it worth using minoxidil as that has limited side effects or is my hair not bad enough yet?

I just read that some people stay at NW1 or 2 forever and it doesn’t get worse so who knows.

Try some Nizoral shampoo once every 4 days and daily scalp massages, dermaroll once a week also. If you notice more recession in a few months maybe try minoxidil, please don't jump on finasteride at such an early stage and such an early age

Ok thank you .You are right .

At the moment I’m just watching out for more recession as it’s too early to say anything for sure . If it recedes more , I’ll take action.

I’ve also arranged an online consolation with belgravia hair specialists see what they have to say
