Altering Hairline

My hair in front is thinning (I'm 31) but the top is very thick. I was wondering, if removing the thin hair in the front (only about an inch) would make it look better (I keep it all very short) and if doing this would cause the 'new' hairline to begin receding sooner then if I had left it alone or will it will follow the same rate and stop where it would have naturally?

Thanks

I actually tried this when my hair first started thining on the temples and was becoming harder to style.. it worked well for the first few weeks and made it easier to style but you obviously have to be extremely careful not to go too far, I messed it up a bit one time when I was maintaining it and decided to stop, it took a long time to grow out and looked bad whilst doing so, especially since the rest of my hair was long. I now don't bother as my hair is shorter but would consider it again in the future dependant on my male pattern baldness pattern. As for whether it would affect your hairloss, it wouldn't.

What is it was permanently removed. Will this just accelerate loss of the hair on the new hairline or would the normal progression take place (the hair follicles that were in front would still have to go even though theyre now gone)?

tmia: shaping up your hair line does work for the front, my barber does it and it makes the thinning slightly less noticible. I'm 25, I too have all my hair but just a little thinning in the front just like you. It's hard to tell you what to do since I don't know what you look like and what hair style you have. If you do shave about an inch off, it might look a little weird having a "perfect hairline" an inch back where it typically starts. It might make your forhead look big.

As for laser hair removal, I don't suggest that at all. For 1 you might have a slight chance of scarring and you wouldnt want a scar right on your forhead. It will not "accelerate hairloss" but eventually the rest of your hair may start thinning if you don't take care of the process now. What are you gonna do when your "new hairline" starts to thin too? Laser another inch off? I don't think so. Doing something so permanent for a temporary solution is very extreme and you might regret it in the future.

Being that you are posting in the cosmetics forum i strongly suggest you take a look at getting:

Toppik hair fibers along WITH the Spray Maximizer - http://toppik.com/maximizer_detail.asp

that's what I use for the hairline and works wonders, covers everything and I look fine. Also take a look at:

Dermatch - http://dermatch.com/
or
Couvre - http://toppik.com/couvre.asp

Hope this helps.
