I started topical finasteride about 7 weeks back. I´ve been on minoxidil for about two years before that. I really want to try and add a low dose of propecia, say 0,25 or 0,5. Would doing so now not be a good time? thinking about knowing whether or not the topical finasteride worked.
The thought of attacking it from two angles seems like a good idea in my head :)

Yes you can start it... If you don't get any sides with topical finasteride, you shouldn't get much sides with oral finasteride either, as topical finasteride gets absorbed into the bloodstream anyway.

Is that a definite? Is that the ONLY reason it works?

Well, there are many different results in finasteride studies. However from what I've seen most people get the same sides with topical as with oral finasteride, so i guess it doesn't matter much.

anybody have any studies? Is there really a difference in results between oral and topical? Is it just that topical is less convenient?
