There are many websites claiming that aloevera gel can help grow hair. The claimed mechanisms of action for this are:

1) An anti-inflammatory agent that helps to top irritation of the scalp

2) A growth agent for new hair follicles (I am skeptical)

Are there any scientific studies looking at this?

The gel you create from the actual plant is like mucus, and it is quite disgusting to put that on your hair. I want some tangible evidence before hassling with this.

To look up if there are scientific studies, search for "aloe vera alopecia/baldness/hair" in scholar.google.com. You can also search for related terms as well, for example the names of the active compounds in aloe vera, whether they have ay effects on prostaglandins, and so on.
