Hi guys,

I am almost 27. I have been using propecia for almost 6 months. I started with minoxidil, I used 3 months. In the second month I started having propecia also. It was really good, my hair got thicken and new hair growth. But now, almost 6th month, I am loosing a lot of hair, I havent seen that before, not even before starting any of them (minoxidil or propecia). I dont know what should I do. Propecia was working perfectly, but not anymore. Should I switch to dusteride or what?,

Thankf for your help in advance.

So u mean that i should not stop propecia but i should take it with minoxidil.. But I read that sometimes propecia is starting not to affect (help) the person DHT level. Does it make sense to use more than 1mg/a day to decrease DHT level more?

Thanks again..

A Shed is not a bad sign. Sometimes it can be linked to the drugs working. I think what Timi is trying to say is to keep doing what your doing.

Kiba,

Keep at it. A shed around 6 months is normal. Depending on your physiology people shed at different times. A shed is nothing to be worried about it stands to reason that your hair will come back thicker. Go to the shedding section and read one of the original top posts on "Why you experience a shed". It may put your mind at ease. Adding minoxidil can't hurt, but it is also a bigger commitment and so I'd personally wait to see if the finasteride alone will give you the results you want and then go from there. Good luck and remember sometimes people don't start to see results until 10-12 months.

I can understand if it is sheding in the begining. But isnt it weird that it worked perfect 5 months like making my hair thicker and regrowth but in the 6th months it seems like no effect or almost make it sheding more.

Thanks guys a lot really fast reply.

I wouldn't say it's weird. You're going to find that finasteride is unpredictable and you really shouldn't attempt to measure progress for sure this early in. Some people see really good progress at 4 months, others at 6, and others still at 10 or 12. It sucks to shed. We all know it. The main idea is to hang in there and ride out the shed. Remember there's no such thing as "supposed to". Give much more time, and if it still doesn't satisfy you then post again, and we'll tell you to give it more time.

There was some humor in that last sentence but it's true. Sometimes we need to be reminded especially when it's at its worst. Good luck and be PATIENT.

Yeah of course I will give it more time but still it is so bad that now I have less hair then beginnig.. It is so thin now that I can see my scalp, it was not even like that before starting the treatment. I hope it is a kind of periodic thing. We will see.. Thanks for advices and msg..

I will let you know about the process..

Thanks a lot again..

Yeah don't worry man, my hair was doing good this past five months but it seems like since Sunday my hair has just shedded and turned very stringy in the parts most affected by male pattern baldness but don't worry, it seems common with almost everyone here.

Dont worry mate, your hair is just preparing itself for even better growth. Hair starts to get thin before it sheds. This is because your body is trying to get rid of the hair to make room for new stronger hair. I agree that the sudden shed that has ocurred after this long is unusual but everybody bodies react differently to different things. I believe the minoxidil would have helped initiated such a shed because i had this problem. Furthermore from my experience my hair got much worse before it got better. Shedding was pretty bad with me so i know what your going through. My crown had minor thinning to begin with (barelly noticeable) then suddenly looked very bad after 2months (obvious balding). I was convinced the medication was not working and doing more harm than good. Not to mention my hairline was getting pretty bad. To update on this my crown is now thicker than it was in the begining and feels much thicker. I now have tiny blond hairs getting longer on my hairline. My girlfriend has even commented on my hair getting thicker. Have faith it will work.
