Hey all,

I've been on 1.25MG Proscar for exactly a week now. I wasn't expecting any results whatsoever for at least a couple months, but I am amazed that I have had absolutely no 'itch attacks' for the last 3 days.

For the last couple months in relatively early stages of hair loss (I am NW2.5) I have had daily scalp 'itch attacks'. Usually once or twice an hour, sometimes more.. Anyone with male pattern baldness knows how this feels. I've been on Nizoral for 3 months with minimal help in this area. But the entire weekend, I have had NO scalp itch (except for the regular ones, not localized on my crown like usual). My girlfriend even commented, because she usually notices me scratching all the time.

I'm sort of hesitant to attribute this to using finasteride, but is it possible that the DHT has already been affected and reduced in the folicles? Even if finasteride doesn't stop my hairloss, I would be happy taking this drug just to get rid of that horribly annoying itch..

I'm also happy to report that I have absolutely no sides. In fact I beleive that my sex drive has been enhanced this week! (also commented on by my girlfriend). This may just be temporary due to the fact that i'm finally doing something about my hair loss, but who knows.

Its certainly possible. I have really been contemplating whether that is my problem. I have bad itches in the exact spots where I lose hair. I used saw palmetto for a while because of fear for propecia and my itch completely went away for a few months but then slowly came back. I tried tons of shampoos some prescription strength and followed them religiously but nothing helped at all not even nizoral. Then saw palmetto made it completely go away so in my situation I think propecia would make my itch go away shortly after starting it otherwise I will quit it since I believe they are related in my case.
Anyhow that is awesome it made the itch go away it definitely is good sign in my view, but not everyone reacts like that for some reason maybe different immune system responses to androgens? male pattern baldness still has so many unknowns hardly anything is for certain you have to piece together your own hair loss puzzle so to speak.
