Advices for a 21 years old

Hello to everyone, that's my first post,

I'm a male, 21 years old and over months (like 6-7 at least, but possibly more) I just noticed a relevant hair loss.

Initially I didn't pay attention to that, but then the plain abundant hair losing, as the fact my father, as both my male grandparents are bold, alerted me.

Furthermore, I noticed my corners retiring, withouth any doubt.

I went to a dermathologist. He confirmed me that in his opinion I was into alopecia, and that I was going to lose my hair in my future years. (He just gave me a questionable therapy of cycles of saw palmetto, but this is not what concerns me ;) )

So... I'm still FULL of hair, and I'm really ok with it if it just remained as it is now, at least. But I'm noticing doing more and more efforts, and starting having problems covering my thin spots on my corners, and on my vertex as well, since they're expanding!

I wanna manage the situation.

What are your advices?

I am actually on ketoconazole right now, and it did so good to me! Now I'm using it every two weeks to keep the reached effects

I read about The Big 3... But, for personal opinions, I wouldn't like to use Finasteride, at any percentage.

So again, what are your advices guys?

Thanks for your attention!

well, if you worry about finasteride's sides then maybe you should try minoxidil first...this will not solve the Androgenetic Alopecia-problem but there is a good chance to improve your hair density for the next 2 years
pls keep in mind: there exists a possibility to benefit from finasteride and to reduce the risk of suffering from sides at the same time: e.g. at a dosage of 0.25 mg/per day

ketoconazole? You mean keto shampoo?
I have the same situation here: full head of hair, and just want to keep what I have now without taking any risk. Don't know what to do now.

Some people said they can maintain their hair with 0.25mg finasteride twice a week. But as long as the pill is working on the hair(even at a low dosage), the side-effect will come along with it.(not as strong as normal dosage)

yes ketoconazole as shampoo (I used a generic version of 2% Nizoral)

ok, but let just take for granted that I'm not going to use finasteride. (about side effects, or wether that is or not a good choice we can talk later, or in a specific/other topic if you want)

Given that, how's the situation then?

it will not be possible to slow down the Androgenetic Alopecia-process by using the ket-shampoo only
propably using minoxidil will help you for a certain period of time (2 years + if your are "responder")..well maybe untill then yoram's pilox-device will bei launched ;-)

I didnt say I wanted to use just the ketoconazole shampoo

I said: everything but Finasteride;)

just to explain above: I said ketonoconazole did so good to me

What I meant is that I was suffering by tingling, itching, irritation and pain on my scalp... even pulling a bit my hair was painful...

After I started shampoing.... all gone. I still have sometimes some tingling and itching, but just infrequently and really slightly.

(this because I suffer some serious sebum excess going on, and dandruff as well)

I have heard some people maintain their hair with only nizoral shampoo daily, but sure they are the special cases.

ah don't really know about that... maybe it's just the case of only seborroic alopecia..

but not sure using ketoconazole everyday is such a good and light thing: the 2% label says to use it 2 times a week for the first month (every 3-4 days), then every week/every two weeks for maintaining

Anyway, getting on minoxidil , generic kirkland liquid.. I hope that this will be enough for at least maintain my situation for a good amount of time !

If you don't get on finasteride then your long term prospects are not good. If you won't even try it, then imo you are being very silly. Side effects are temporary, baldness is permanent.

I understand the fear with everything spreading over the internet. So many people lose the hair loss war before the first battle even begins.

Minoxidil isn't a bad choice, but the only long term solution we seem to have is finasteride.

This exactly. Not trying finasteride due to the unlikely prospect of temporary side effects is just giving up. If this is your mindset, then you will go bald.
