Hi all
As mentioned before i'm unsure as to whether i have male pattern baldness. My hair is missing to a large extent in a 1inch strip from my temple to the back of my head but nowhere else, possibly due to scratching and rubbing habit but possibly male pattern baldness. My question is
1.If i take finasteride or dutasteride will it have a negative effect if i do not have male pattern baldness
2.Which one is best
3.How long does hair take to regrow if not male pattern baldness
4.I take beta sitosterol which is a big component of saw palmettobecause i thought it balanced the immune and endocrine system. As i'm possibly wrong about this is it best to stop all at once or gradually to reduce any withdrawal effects
Cheers

Saw palmetto is the big ingredient in saw palmetto.

In answer to your questions regarding DHT inhibitors, no, they will not mess anything up on the scalp. You wont get dependant on them for your hair if you are not genetically predisposed for male pattern baldness. However, screwing with your hormones where it's not necessary can cause problems with other things. I also believe Lysine and Arginine like to cancel each other out. I'm not positive, but I think I read that somewhere. Make sure you have male pattern baldness before you start on anything. It won't hurt you if you don't have it, but it won't help you either.

Finasteride is what you will need to start on. Give it at LEAST 10 months before ruling it as an ineffective treatment. Dutasteride is far to potent to start out with. You might not need the added DHT inhibition to stop the problem at the roots. Only jump to it when you find that finasteride hasn't done you any good.

All the rest of your questions... no one can tell you for sure. Sorry.

Sting,

Regarding the use of arginine and lysine, they won't "cancel each other out per se.

What CAN happen is that if you are using arginine to try and stimulate Growth Hormone, you need to take it on an empty stomach and avoid having ANY other amino acids compete with arginine to get across the brain/blood barrier.

If you are using it to stimulate libido (as I am) it is OK to consume both aminos in a day but better (I think) to take them at different times.

Lastly, if you are prone to herpes, the lysine is pretty necessary if you are taking arginine, which can help the little buggers to get active.

So lysine is a herpes inhibitor? That's interesting. My step sister has oral herpes pretty bad, I should let her know that.

It works rather well for that purpose. Helps to use topical like abreva and there is actually a little electrical device that fries the mother f*****g lesion before it can get going.

Cheers for the replies

I read somewhere that argenine and lysine though normally in competition ,when taken together in doses greater than 1.2g help stimulate HGH release.Apparently even the researchers were puzzled as both normally competed across the blood brain barrier.Even if this is incorrect i don't fancy taking 15g of argenine alone to stimulate HGH release which is what i believe it takes. As for beta sitosterol it is should i say a compound in saw palmetto though on it's own it is believed to lower cholesterol and inhibit both 5-AR and aromatase.I should state where i got this info though i can't remember but i will endeavour to dig it out as it is only here say otherwise and frustrating for you guys not being able to view the articles and make up your own minds

I don't think the science of using oral arginine for male pattern baldness is all that compelling and I don't take arginine for that purpose. Arginine has been shown to release GH at varying dosages and I don't take it for that either.

Arginine most def will aid in male orgasm and libidio issues and I know that for a fact. Added to v****, it will literally blast your head off. Taken at night, it will stimulate nocturnal erections.

As stated above, I dont take Lysine at the same time of day as Arginine and this appears to work very well for my purposes.
