I'm sure a lot of you have probably already heard about this but I thought I'd bring it up here to get everyone's thoughts on it. On the 21st a Japanese company called Shiseido is releasing a new product called Adenogen to be used for combatting male pattern baldness. In six month clinical trials the company claims a 94.1% success rate of REGROWTH (not just maintaining). I'm no expert but apparently the product works by increasing a hormone which promotes hair growth. It probably will not be on store shelves in the US in two weeks, but it will be available online I would bet. What are yals thoughts on this? 94.1% regrowth is a very impressive statistic, but then again if the 83% finasteride success rate was legit, a lot of us probably wouldn't be on this forum would we? Supposedly the trials were done under the watch of the Japanese version of our FDA, so I'm hopeful that the success rates are truthful, but I guess we'll see when it hits the market!

Sounds good, man!!

But do you have some more infomation about it. Is it oral or topical treatment? What is the price of it? Could you send here some links for studies on it or links to some sites where you could find more info on this treatment?

Cheers.

BTW, adenogen (or exactly adenosine (adenogen contains other substances like sophora as well)) did not produce regrowth, but did a pretty good job at thickening vellus hair.

Like I said, I'm no expert. Here are two links to threads from hairlosshelp.com forums that focus on this:

http://www.hairlosshelp.com/forums/mess ... adid=45426

http://www.hairlosshelp.com/forums/mess ... adid=43080 (more info in this thread)

"Tokyo (JCNN) - Leading Japanese cosmetic manufacturer Shiseido (TSE: 4911) announced December 1 that it has discovered a hair-growth property of adenosine, one of the in vivo substances that exist in the human body.

The company's research shows that adenosine directly affects hair papillae, a key in hair production; consequently, the output of FGF-7, a hair-growth factor, is increased.

Based on this discovery, Shiseido has developed an innovative hair-growth substance, Adenosine, and has received approval as an active ingredient for medicated cosmetics from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

The company plans to launch Adenogen, a hair-growth product for male-pattern baldness, on March 21, 2005. "

Sounds damn good to me.

This is the sh*t:

Shiseido Co. plans to begin sales of a hair growth tonic that contains adenosine, which is said to increase the genes that promote hair growth.

The new product, called Adenogen, was effective in stimulating hair growth in 94.1 percent of the people who took part in six months of clinical tests, company officials said.

The product, which will retail for about 6,500 yen excluding consumption tax, is to hit store shelves in March, with Shiseido projecting annual sales of 6.5 billion yen.

After peaking at 74 billion yen in 1999, the market for hair growth products began fading, according to research company Fuji Keizai Co.

This was partly due to the meteoric rise and subsequent fall in sales of Taisho's Riup hair tonic, which gave the market an estimated 15-billion-yen boost in 1999. By 2003, the market had sagged to about 57 billion yen. But the research firm predicts the market rose by 1 billion yen year on year in 2004 to 58 billion yen.(IHT/Asahi: December 17,2004)
