I honestly have only come across this treatment once in all of the hundreds of hours of my life that have been consumed researching hair loss. But, there is a ton of info out there, so maybe I just overlooked it. I stumbled across it again recently while researching a tendonitis injury. Because this treatment is lesser known, I wanted to make everyone aware of it as the results look promising. Its effects are supposed to last for up to 18 months, and any triggered growth is permanent.

Personally, I'm 27 years old and started balding rapidly when I turned 21. I began using Rogaine when I was 22 and when I was 24 I started finisteride. Rogaine seemed to completely stop my hair loss, and I managed to grow hundreds of hairs, which to my disappointment, have remained miniaturized vellus hairs. Last August I had a 4,000 graft FUE hair transplant performed in Istanbul, Turkey for $2200. The operation went very well, and my post op recovery was text book. However, I am now approaching 7 months post op and I am really unable to tell if there is any new growth. The existing vellus hairs have made it almost impossible for me to distinguish any new growth.

(My scalp looks red and inflamed because I was just exfoliating the skin a bit with a comb prior to taking the picture).

I can't find a clinic locally that performs both treatments in conjunction with each other (I found only one Dr. in Phoenix who performs ACell treatment with his hair transplants but, there is no mention of PRP), however there are plenty of clinics that offer PRP in the area. The cost is $350 for the ACell and $550+ for the PRP. But if this can rejuvenate my hair grafts then it will be worth it. Even if I feel I need to go back for an additional round several months down the road. I will be getting both of these performed separately this week and I will keep you all updated here on my progress.

Most don't advertise Acell and PRP as a stand alone treatment. If they mention Acell and PRP on their website you'll have to call and ask if they offer in a stand alone treatment. I remember Coles office was doing 3 a month but that might be high. I had Acell and PRP in December with Cole. $1800. It's more involved than some think. I think I was in the office for 2-3 hours. I would recommend this treatment ONLY if you have the money to waste. Only a small percentage of people respond to this treatment. This was my first treatment and I'm 3 months out. On average it'll take 5 months to see any results.

I was calling around for some PRP pricing and actually spoke to a Doctor who answered for probably 15-20 minutes. He claims that PRP is only useful to stimulate newly transplanted grafts and that it was too late to make a difference at 7 months out. He said I would have greater benefits with an FDA approved laser comb as far as making any vellus hairs mature.

I still am going to try the PRP because it is only like $550 a treatment and it is worth risking the money. There are a lot of claims online that it has even helped people without hair transplants. Given what he said though I do think spending $350 for the ACell would be a waste because the PRP would probably have similar effects, if it did help. Also, I bought the $500 Hairmax Ultima 12 Laser comb but was able to find a new one online for $350. You can't put a price on hair, I saved so much on the transplant that I'm willing to fork over for the ancillaries.

Dear God!! My friend, please STOP wasting your hard earned money. I promise with 100% certainty neither PRP/acell or the laser comb do a single damn thing for your hair!! These hair transplant surgeons are relentless!! Someone needs to shut them the f*ck up.
