I used to post on these forums back when I started losing my hair around age 20. I jumped on proscar split into 1/4 and minoxidil. My hair did not improve from the treatments after 2 years, so I decided to accept my hairloss. I started shaving my head and never looked back and I am 27 now.
About 8 months ago I was put on low dose accutane, 10mg/day and tetracycline and other antibiotics for my skin. I went off those medications about 2-3 months and slowly started getting really severe folliculitis, red bumps on my head. I've always had folliculitis, but it never flared up in this way. I now have about 30-40 small/big bumps all over my head. It's nothing I have ever seen before. I've been shaving my head with a razor for the past 4 years, and this never occurred until recently.
Can accutane or antibiotics be the cause of this new folliculitis outbreak? I didn't shave my head for a week and I notice the sides of my head are way thinner than they used to be. The Dr. advised me to stop washing my head so frequently and to just use cetaphil from now on. It seems to really be concentrated on the sides of my head and that is how I usually sleep. The top and back of my sides are nearly problem free. I use a new towel each day to cover my pillow, so I don't think a cleanliness is my problem. Any advice?
