A Year On finasteride, Comparison Pics. (not Good)

I'm keeping a little hair loss log and I noticed that it has been a year since I started finasteride (June 1st 2016). It's a good thing I wrote that down because I forgot when I started over the months. I also used Minoxidil on and off, I just don't like it that much. It tends to irritate my scalp and I feel like it didn't give me any results, but who knows... I'm below baseline atm.
Anyway here's some pictures to show you what happened.

Around the time I started:

Currently

I don't know if you can tell but it's so much thinner and there's no sign of it getting any better. I'm still seeing an excessive amount of hair falling out on a daily basis. I feel like some weeks are better than other but all in all I'm still headed in the wrong direction.

I'm also noticing an increase in scalp itchiness a couple hours after I've taken finasteride (1.25 mg). This has been a thing since 2/3 months.

What would you do? Should I throw Minoxidil back in and deal with the itching? Are there any other options?

Maybe you should add minoxidil and find something that will help with itching, for me it was Nizoral and Burdock shampoo

Maybe add ru? It seems to help with the itch for me a bit, comparing to the days when i don't apply it.

Or 0.5 mg dutasteride per week?

Sorry to hear you are thinning still.
...

Are you sure the photos are taken in the same condition? Light ect? I have good hair days and bad hair days. When i compare the photos I'm always surprised how bad the old ones are.

In the old photos the hair is very orderly while in the new photos it's caotic. I made the mistake, of comparing good to bad hair days.

holy f***, like looking in a mirror. I had the EXACT same results on finasteride after one year... like, down to the f*****g hair. I am attempting again, because it kept my hair line intact, but going with a VERY low dose... like .05 mg eod.

I will let you know how it goes. I am about 1.5 months in.

Either consider this, or drop it entirely. I had all the exact same sides as you - increased oiliness, itching, burning, etc...

has your libido increased?

The pictures may not be taken in the exact same conditions but you just have to take my word for it. My hair got worse. I restarted Minoxidil yesterday again. I will only be applying it once a day.

I'm going to change the dosage as well. I guess 1.25mg was too high of a dose for me after all. I feel like it worked when I started out but over the months it had the exact opposite effect. I experienced an increase in libido, yes. But atm it's actually a bit lower, like %70.

I can't understand how people who are willing to take the finasteride plunge don't take minoxidil or nizoral as well.

It's called the big 3 for a reason bro. You already did the hard part.

Cuz minoxidil is completely ineffective for a majority of people and a huge waste of money for them. And Nizoral is complete trash.

Hey man I had a similar response to finasteride. 3 months in on finasteride 1mg daily and minoxidil 2x daily, I suffered a major shed and started getting horrible scalp itch. The scalp itch never went away, and I continued to lose hair the entire 2.5 years on finasteride/minoxidil. Everyone claims a shed is good, but that is complete bs. I never grew back the hair I shed, and things just continued to get worse. If you are responding this poorly after 1 year on it, things will most likely continue to get worse. I quit minoxidil/finasteride, and started duta .5mg EOD 1.5 months ago. My scalp itch is almost completely gone now (it was absolutely horrendous just 3 months ago). I am still losing hair on duta, but only time will tell if it is effective for me. Dutasteride is really your only other option at this point.

Idk man, I think duta is gonna put me on the same boat eventually. My body just reacts that way I guess. I'm gonna do the exact opposite and start with a smaller dosage. 0,25mg/day. I'm gonna pick up proscar tomorrow.

Hard to admit, but yes it's thinner. That blows dude. You're not alone. I've been on propecia for 2yrs (took my last pill of month 24 yesterday) and am way below baseline. My hair line and temples are fucked and developed a bald apply at the vertex. I added 4ml once daily 5% minoxidil 6 to 7 months ago but it hasn't made a difference. I continued shedding hair the entire time. I'm convinced propecia accelerated my loss (release the haters).

Today was the first day in 2 years I didn't take a propecia pill. I didn't refill my script. Now I'm debating just waiting and seeing what happens over the next few months or just start dutasteride. I have 30 avodart pills sitting on my shelf, but so worried that sh*t will be no better, or maybe worse compared to finasteride. Wtf...

I would just make one suggestion - Add minoxidil. I added minoxidil more than a month back and I wish I had added it sooner.

For the first time in 7 years, I am seeing thicker hair on my crown.

I wouldn't use finasteride alone. I would definitely use minoxidil with it, maybe get minoxidil with no PPG, like Lipogaine.

With that said, I did use finasteride alone when I first started. It can slow down hair loss for some, stop hair loss for others, and rarely give regrowth/thickening. It's very possible that if you wouldn't have used finasteride at all, your hair would've been even worse than you think it is.

I would say def get on Big 3. It is weird that your hair became worst.

Holy sh*t, I just styled my hair with a volume boosters, like I always do. I had a good look and I was scared by what I saw.

My hairline is turning to sh*t. And my scalp is itchy again (not a good sign).

After a short break I restarted finasteride yesterday (0,25mg/day). If this doesn't work out I'll be in a bad place after the coming summer.
