A User's Nizoral Experience

I recently started using Nizoral 1% shampoo due to the numerous recommendations here; however, I can indeed say that it does cause shedding, or at least for me. Moreover, I think that this is the "bad" kind of shedding because it seems reactive and not the type of shedding that preceeds growth. FYI, I been using it for three weeks now (every third day and left on scalp for approx 3-5 minutes) and almost every time there is an markedly increase in shedding, or rather, hair lost after shampooing--probably at least double what I usually lose. Some of my hair continues to fall out after I towel dry and comb my hair.

Nevertheless, I think Nizoral it is a good shampoo. Additionally, I also experienced shedding with other dandruff shampoos. So I guess when I shampoo I think I'll just leave it in my hair for a shorter time or use it less often. It really does a good job at stopping an itchy scalp.

Just wondering what anyone else's response is when using Nizoral. Thanks

Are you aware that the hairs that you shed today are a few months dormant? If nizoral is the problem then it will induce a shed after 3 months! not 2-3 weeks!

(reactive?? )

(btw I love your doggy)

reactive??

Reactive meaning that the hair loss is a reaction to the shampoo itself.

Are you aware that the hairs that you shed today are a few months dormant?

Remember what I said..."and almost every time there is an markedly increase in shedding, or rather, hair lost after shampooing." Maybe I should've just said hair loss instead of shedding. But I have no doubt that my hair is being lost to the shampoo itself.

btw I love your doggy

Hey, thanks for the doggie compliment. I'll be sure and tell him--he loves compliments : )

nizoral has a drying effect on the hair, which I believe can cause some of the dying hairs, which were destined to hit the floor anyways, to be shed. The same can be said about running your hands through you hair continuously watching the shed hairs becoming detached.

After all, this is the Shedmaster speaking. :)

David, I highly doubt that Nizoral is the cause of the shedding, basically due to the way you reported it. But of course we have to choose a route that suits us. If you trully believe it is damaging for your hair and scalp, by all means discontinue it.

Hey, thanks for the replies. But, yeah, I know that hair is pretty unpredictable, and it can be frustrating in trying to find something that works. I think I will discontinue Nizoral for a short time and see what happens. Previously, I used Neutrogena "Healthy Scalp" shampoo. It worked pretty good, but I'm always looking for something better.

I disagree with your quitting Nizoral.

Any time you add a new chemical topical to your head, there is a risk of shedding on the short term. This is not unexpected, and is something that you need to ride out for a few months. Stick with the nizoral, it is good for your scalp. If after a few months it is still bothering you, then consider dropping Nizoral.

gardener, how do you keep the nizoral and t/sal out of you eyes. I want to use it but alas, this is a problem that I can not figure out how to fix.
