haha - i'm no doctor (my dad is though!) but you don't NEED to take water to swallow your finasteride, i've never had any problem taking pills dry, lots of other people are the same way

that being said - it's much smarter to take it with water, and it might even be a smart idea to drink water a little more regularly now that you're taking finasteride, as it isn't exactly easy on your liver (from what i've read, again, not a doctor)

Liquids are used to make the way to your stomach more easier while taking pills. You can use any kind of liquid.

A stupid question would be: do I have to take it with Vodka?

Apparently if you are Scottish, you have to.

There's a somewhat related issue here which interests me a great deal, and it has to do with how you take food, drugs, and nutritional supplements: I don't think you should swallow these things whole; you should chew them up first, then swallow them, the same as you do with any ordinary food. There is some persuasive evidence that not all drugs and supplements in the form of tablets and capsules are always completely absorbed when swallowed whole.

CAUTION. There's one obvious exception to that general rule: if the drug or supplement you're taking is designed to be "time-release", then obviously you shouldn't chew it up first. Go ahead and swallow it whole. If you're not sure about it, check the label instructions, or call your pharmacist.
