Why is this relevant ?

high omega 6 diet and insulin resistance -- pgd2 production

pgd2 -- increases conversion of weak androgens to testosterone and produces reactive oxygen species

as confirmed by high levels of pgd2 and reactive oxygen species in bald scalps

high Ros -- Induction of transforming growth factor-beta 1 by androgen is mediated by reactive oxygen species in hair follicle dermal papilla cells

high tgf 1 beta -- increased chance of fibrosis in the scalp

pgd2 -- also shown to induce calcification

fibrosis and calcification -- reduced oxygen and blood flow to the scalp

this is how DHT is linked to scalp tension

The connection between DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and hair loss is well-established, but the role of scalp tension is an interesting speculative theory. Here's how they might be related:

DHT and Hair Loss:
  • DHT is a sex hormone that binds to receptors in hair follicles.
  • High DHT levels can shorten the hair growth phase (the anagen phase) and miniaturize follicles, leading to thinner, finer hair and eventually hair loss.
  • This is the primary reason for androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male-pattern baldness and female-pattern hair loss.
Scalp Tension Theory:
  • The theory suggests that chronic scalp tension might restrict blood flow and nutrient delivery to hair follicles.
  • This could potentially hinder hair growth and exacerbate the negative effects of DHT.
  • Tight hairstyles, like braids or ponytails, or frequently wearing hats, could contribute to scalp tension.
