hello there my fellow fallen comrades. hws everyone (not good i bet). well im pretty new to this site, but i have been researching around this painful area for quite some time.

the other day i saw this documentry concerning the benefits of nano technology(technology on a particle physics level), there was this intresting part of the feature which highlighted a thin sheath of material so minute and miniscule used to close internal cuts and wounds in surgery. its characteristics were that it could be manipulated to behave in many ways, to become as strong and lasting as steel, or to even dissolve and disintegrat on contact with fluids. basically this technology is very versatile and offers new hope to hair systems and wigs.

it follows that this led me to an idea that current hairs systems/wigs usually need a base to which synthetic hair or real hair is implanted. current technology dictates that the base portion of the hair system needs replacing coz of wear and tear every 4-6weeks or so. nano technology on the other hand can be used to make materials so thin and strong that the base portion of the hair system does not suffer the same crap fate(life expectancy) of current systems, thus making the system more manageable and cosmetically more natural even compared to the most advanced hair systems availible today.

is this idea feasible? does anyone know if this kinda research is under way?

Something similar is being researched by several groups now, called Follicular Cloning, where they don't attempt to make a synthetic hair, but actually clone existing follicle cells from follicles that produce hairs that are impervious to DHT (those around the bottom-back of the head).... and then transplant them to the front.

Going by your other posts and this one, you're looking for the cutting edge in hair loss research. Follicular Cloning is where its headed, and will likely be the closest you're going to get to the type of future treatments you're looking for.

Unfortunately it is still VERY new and the research race just began a year or two ago (some still just starting up). We will keep everyone informed of the progress however, as information is made available to us.

You can read about the various research projects going on in this area here:

interesting idea, but I would never put something artificial on my head. I would rather be bald then have a "wig" on my head. I cant wait til they find a cure, not a cover up for male pattern baldness.

It's not a cover up. It would be like getting a hair transplant but having a lot more hair to go around instead of the small donar areas you have now. Just look at people that have good hair transplant now that were done with the small donor area and think of how great a job can be done with an unlimited donar area.
