Hello,

I posted before a topic about my hairline: https://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/threads/f-ed-up-hairline-since-start-of-puberty.90628/

Oh boy, A lot has a happened in a year and a half. I was in two life-or-death situations. One was a really bad car accident and the other was from an assault. I was also traumatized from something personal that happened to me. Could this be telogen effluvium?

Thing is that the weird v-shaped hair on my forehead started to thin out a lot. I just have to shave the remaining parts and they are really thin. While this did give me a straight hairline, I noticed that ALL of my middle scalp was thinning out with it. My hairline has thinned, but it hasn't receded and my temples are solid. It got so bad to the point where I could see my scalp from the front with NORMAL lighting. Oh and by all of my middle scalp, I mean that. From my hairline to my crown. I mean my crown wasn't the thickest out there since I was a child, but now it looks bad as it blends in with the scalp thinning. Also my sides are getting a lot thinner, too. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of finasteride, but I'm scared of the side-effects and it's really hard to get it where I'm from. I'll only take it if I know 100% this is male pattern baldness.

it is far more than likely it is male pattern baldness I am afraid, Telogen Effluvium tends to effect hair evenly, you are losing hair in the classic male pattern baldness fashion on top of the skull.

If I had a receding hairline then I would have agreed with you. My hairline is intact, temples are strong, and I'm thinning on the midline of my scalp. My sides are embarrassingly bad. I also had people commenting on them. I'll post pics to illustrate what I mean. I know I sound pathetic, but even if it's androgenic alopecia it's definitely not the normal pattern.

EDIT: Some parts of my scalp are also painful to touch. You might have noticed red spots on my scalp from the pics.

Very similar to how my hair loss started at 16/17. Hairline remained complety intact with thinning directly behind but no crown loss. It's an unusual pattern but still male pattern baldness.

My sides were fine. If you're interested, this is my hair loss situtation now after 17 years of doing nothing about it.

Oh damn. I hope your treatment is working out for you. But starting at 17 and still not going completely bald in about 17 years is really impressive.

I guess I could see my hair becoming like yours in the future, but I'm literally thinning everywhere on my head. Yes, including my nape I just realized, so I can't get a hair transplant if I want in the future. FML.

I just took this pic of my nape: http://imgur.com/ArkJQtK

many forms of alopecia......

I would not be in denial of your situation.

It's real simple, either you take finasteride or bald.

are you shedding too ? if yes in which places ? why don't you go and check your hormone levels , thyroid anything related... that would lead to hair loss before you start anything, don't listen to these who tell you to get on any treatment they ain't docs, most of them work for Merck or any drug companies they here just for making money out of your situation, search and find stuff for yourself !!!

Isn't it normal to shed? I guess I started to notice some hairs falling but I'm not sure if it's because I never really paid attention to this before or if it just started. I did notice that all the hairs from my scalp that fall are long and with a white bulb. I don't think they're miniaturized, but as I said I never really paid attention to this before.

The thing is I'm ok with hopping on finasteride if my hairloss is actually due to adrogenetic alopecia. I heard that finasteride causes some shedding (which some people believe is due to finasteride triggering temporary telogen effluvium). If I do have Telogen Effluvium, then finasteride only harms my hair more with the possibility of side effects. I just want to know a clear and definitive way to determine if this is androgenetic alopecia or not.

Also, I don't believe they're working for companies lol. They went through similar problems before and are just trying to help as I'm sure most regret not starting treatment earlier.
