9 1/2 months on Propecia is there any hope for regrowth?

That's right I'm 9 1/2 months into Propecia 1mg a day treatment and everything is about the same since I started. I just have early frontal loss all I needed was some thickening of miniaturized hairs and that would give me a way fuller look. I'm 22 1/2 years and started Propecia only like 4 months or so after I noticed I'm losing hair so I had a high chance for reversal but now it looks slim!

You should really apply minoxidil for regrowth, along with nizoral to ensure your scalp is in good condition

Well finasteride is way stronger then minoxidil in all ways so I don't think minoxidil would do too much. And minoxidil is a life long committent and a hard one and your hairs become dependent on which is no good.

You'd be surprised, minoxidil has helped a lot of people.

So is finasteride, if you want to keep the hair it's keeping.

9 1/2 months and no further thinning is a big success.

Chances are your frontal recession is just a mature hairline. Propecia isn't going to get you back to NW1.

Personally, I'd be celebrating if i were you.

Taking finasteride is A LOT EASIER then taking Rogaine! And it wasn't a big surprise Propecia was going to stop my hair loss, it does so in 90% of cases! And I do have a mature hairline but I'm clearly thinning in the front although it's early and mild but it's there! My miniaturization test showed a NW3 with mid anterior thinning. The major reason I want my hairs to thicken up so if male pattern baldness starts again on Propecia I can catch it easier because if everything stays the way it is those miniaturized hairs in the front will be gone before I know it.

And as for the record I don't want to go back to a NW1! I want to stay at NW2 and thicken it up!

They are completley different, you can't compare the 2.

finasteride helps to stop the production of DHT, which is essentially what causes miniturazation of the hair folicle. Taking this helps to stop further damage to your hair folicles.

minoxidil helps to promote hair regrowth of dormant folicles and thicken existing ones. It helps to have a healthy scalp too, hence the Nizoral.

Therefore, finasteride will help you to maintain, minoxidil will help you to regrow.
Very few people see regrowth on finasteride alone, you need to add minoxidil (rogaine/kirkland)

You just said it! Propecia blocks DHT! A major cause of male pattern baldness! Rogaine doesn't. When you block DHT the hair stops being further damaged and may reverse and even new hairs may come out but mostly just thin hairs become thicker and that makes it look like regrowth. Rogaine may also stop your loss and regrow but to a way lesser effect! Blocking DHT and stimulation of hair follicles are 2 different things! It's a common myth here that Propecia is just for maintenance and Rogaine for regrowth that's total BS! Of course I'm not saying Rogaine is useless it does work but it's a hell of a work to apply and usually won't do too much except maybe stronger maintenance in conjunction with Propecia and a little more regrowth, that's all!

Exactly, you said 'may' reverse.

It's pretty uncommon that taking Propecia alone will reverse the damage, it just stops further damage.
Some people have seen regowth from Propecia alone, but these are generally the younger guys in their late teens and early 20s. Their hair folicles haven't been damaged over a long period and can occasionally rebuild themselves.
This isn't due to the Propecia, it's just their hair folicle being released from the DHT onslaught early enough to recover on its own.

For regrowth, most people, esspecially oens in their mid 20s and above, will generally need minoxidil to stimulate the hair folicles. Propecia just doesn't do this.

I'm 22 but haven't seen anything yet :sobbing: But I know Propecia doesn't do anything but only blocks DHT and that's what can reverse your male pattern baldness but of course it's only "may" but the possibility for Propecia to do this is much higher then Rogaine and that's a fact! But a combo treatment is the best but a lot of work to use Rogaine!

If your hair hasn't continually gotten worse on Propecia and just stayed the same, that is a success.

I don't think these drugs ever take you back to where you were before hairloss.

Yes Propecia and Rogaine can halt male pattern baldness even for a long time but for some it regrows actually new hair particularly Propecia. Rogaine usually gives you peach fuzz but both can strenghten your weak hairs and that's what can make you look fuller especially if you have a lot of those weak hairs!
