Dear All

Happy New Year - Just thought I'd share my regime - I haven't seen any posts on a switch from Propecia to Revivogen and thought this might be useful.

For previous details of my regime and replies please go to viewtopic.php?f=61&t=38667

However In a nutshell I did 8 years on 1mg Propecia experiencing impressive regrowth for the first 15 months followed by stability. At the beginning of the regime I was probably between a Norwood 3v and 4 and Propecia took me to a very pleased Norwood 2 (for more specific details see previous post).

After 8 years on the treatment I wanted to have a baby with my girlfriend and was mildly concerned about a study on the reported effects of finestride on the male foetus - so I dropped my dosage to 0.5mg. I am delighted to report that the reduced dosage had no impact whatsoever and my hair remained stable. Moreover we also had a baby boy who is now nearly 3 years old and perfectly healthy.

However as with most people I was still concerned with the potential long term sistematic consequences of taking a pill everyday so decided to switch to a topical DHT inhibitor - Revivogen. So just over a year ago I stopped using Propecia altogether and have now been using Revivogen for that same period.

I am delighted to report that Revivogen has also maintained my hair. Obviously Revivogen is less convenient than taking a pill everyday - It doesn't have a particularly pleasant smell and can stain your pillow and is quite greasy. I usually put it on before bed and then wash my hair in the morning so it doesn't effect working life. But it definitely works and I now know that I can maintain my hair for the rest of my life with a topical solution.

I'm obviously not knocking Propecia. It really was a life changer and when I started on Propecia all those years ago I don't think Revivogen existed. Propecia allowed me to hang onto my locks in a key period of my life and it is an amazing drug . But if you are worried about sistematic long term side effects (although I have to report a clean bill of health to date after 10 years use - no liver, kidney damage or sexual problems) there is a very viable option.

If I could do it all again then I would have probably done the 15 or so months of Propecia at the beginning and then moved onto Revivogen. Just for peace of mind.

Great to hear. I'm also going off Propecia after 6 months of use. My side effects were very mild, but similar to you I can't stop thinking about possible long term effects and wouldn't forgive myself if problems arose in the future.

I used Revivogen last year before starting Propecia, it worked well for me so I will be going back to it and also adding topical spironolactone and rogaine foam in the morning. One problem I did have with Revivogen (aside from the smell and greasiness) was that it would dry out my scalp and would occasionally crust off. Have you experienced this? I'm thinking that I will try and combat it this time around with emu oil on top.

I just don't know how anyone can use Revivogen in the longterm. The stuff is so damn greasy. I tried it for a year (didn't help) and my G/F at the time hated the smell. She wouldn't go near me when I had it in. And of course she wasn't too wild about the pillow cases I ruined because of the staining factor.

True, it works for me because I'm young and don't plan on committing anytime soon. Now going back to Revivogen, I'm going to add S5 in the morning and on nights I have a "sleepover" I'll just double up with the S5.

Hey Veteran Surfer

That's great to hear.

I've never dared take Propecia, but I've been using Regaine for the past 4 years.
Saw an initial considerable improvement, but as the years have passed it's gradually failing and my crown is starting to show. Scary times!

So, still scared of Propecia, I've gone for Revivogen. Been on it about a month, shedding has increased a little (ploughing through with faith!), but my scalp is seriously dry - which I imagine is as a result of three topical solutions per day!

Glad to hear a success story with Revivogen though, maybe I'll risk reducing the minoxidil to once a day and see if my skin can handle it...

Hi tpower1024, jimbob et al

Difficult decision - you might want to stick with Propecia for a bit longer but your call - certainly makes sense to use Revivogen with Rogaine. I've been quite lucky with Revivogen although as I say the smell etc isn't ideal especially if you are dating! I'm married so its a different ball game but you can mask it with a little spray of light aftershave..

With regards to the scalp what about Nizoral shampoo? Should help

All I can report is what I've experienced. I have to say that I was pretty skeptical about topical dht inhibitors but astonishingly Revivogen has kept me Norwood 2ish. But it was Propecia that stopped and reversed my rapidly shedding hair ten years ago. I should add that my hair did shed a little about 3 months into the revivogen regime but his halted and regrew and my hair is healthy stable and strong now. long may it continue!

revivogen greasy? smells?

This is news to me. I bought the shampoo and conditioner, and they have a pleasant smell. Maybe you guys are talking about another solution?

Anyway, I thought it was the Rogaine liquid that was staining my pillowcase. Maybe it is the revivogen... :dunno:

I also use spironolactone at night--sometimes 2 hours after rogaine.

Thank for sharing your story Vet :)

It's good to hear somebody providing good hard evidence about Revivogen's effectiveness, rather than the usual suspects on this forum who dismiss it without ever having tried it, or other who say it doesn't work, when they quit after barely 2 months...

Again, congratulations man.

veteran surfer,

It's good to hear of someone else having a positive experience with Revivogen. Most posts I see here about Revivogen claim it's a "scam" or "snake oil." A lot of posters also say they've never seen one success story about it.

I've been maintaining with it since 2006, but hey, what do we know?

Congrats on your success.

Maintaining with Revivogen IS a success story.

Most people would consider maintaining with finasteride a "success", wouldn't they?

It's only the uneducated idiots who expect Revivogen alone to regrow their hair that classify it as "snake oil".

Furthermore according to a significant number of posters on this forum, Minoxidil is also "snake oil" so you really can't take these folk too seriously.

Well I was watching the news and they did a segment with the Dr K. the creator of Revivogen and he says his product works. He also says his product is more effective than finasteride. He says he uses it for his own hairloss.

Huh? Is this some sort of scam to promote Revivogen or are you just trolling?

There is zero risk to any fetus, male or otherwise, from taking Propecia. There is a theoretical risk that woman pregnant with a male baby who swallowed Propecia or handled broken tablets could somehow lead to birth defects but this is very theoretical and has never been reported. But as far as your sperm being affected, no chance. There is no sperm side effects whatsoever and even if there were they would be mobility, etc. -- it wouldn't be anything at all related to the DHT blocking.

:bravo:... you can read!

I was on Revivogen (pre-caffeine batch) for about 6months back in 2010/11 , but quit because of sleeping problem sides and decided to get on finasteride instead.

Revivogen was working fine, but I was completely broke at the time, couldn't afford to keep ordering it at's high price and figured if I was going to risk getting sides fighting hairloss, I might as well risk getting sides using a product like generic finasteride, which is more proven than Revivogen and most importantly costs literally a fraction of the price.

Stayed on finasteride for 16months, but after about 12months the sides crept up on me slowy, constant fatigue at work and no energy or sex drive. Like I said this wasn't an instant thing, more something which I oberserved get slowly worse over time.

Revivogen and finasteride, both helped thicken my hairline, but regrowth was minor, once it's gone it's gone.

I've been off minoxidil now for the best part of 5 months and quit finasteride about 8 weeks ago.

I just don't care anymore and can't be bothered with the hassle and sides of treatment. I've fought the good fight for nearly 4 years with treatments and achieved all I can with them, maintained nw3 for 4 years through my mid 20s, which I am very grateful for.

Now all I want to do is let it go and concentrate instead on the things that I can control in my life and that will actually make me happy, because I know that however much effort I put into my hair with treatments, hair transplants etc I will never have that full head, that everyone on here jizzes off about so much.

The best I can hope for in my 30s is maintaining a crappy looking, patchy nw4-5 on treatments or getting an even crappier, patchy looking transplant and living a life of concealer spray addiction....

No thanks, mentally and psychologically that would be far too draining, the last 3-4 years has been draining enough, having constant ocd about my hair and fiddlling with it non stop to try and create that "perfect" look which I can never achieve...

I'm buzzing it now because the costs of a patchy nw3 (treatment sides, the constant mental stress of hours spent in front of the mirror fiddlling with my crappy thinning hair, never being happy with it) far outweigh whatever negligible benefits remain.
