hey guys, im back after about a month or 2 of inactivity. sorry about that. i got real busy but im hoping to check back more regularly than that now.
quick bit of background for those who dont know me. 18 yrs old, diffuse thinner, had quite a lot of thinning, am one of the unlucky ones. a little bit of temporal recession at the corners (maybe a centimetre or something), dont know if that will carry on, maybe its just a mature hairline. anyway, the update...
nb: i am on 1mg finasteride daily, and nizoral 2 or 3 times a week.
i first saw shedding as early as about the second week on finasteride. in hindsight, maybe i was overanalysing, but i certainly felt as though id lost hair more quickly.
anyway, around month 3 my hair was in better condition. it definitely felt thicker and more than when i was in the shed, so i felt as though i must have had a bit of regrowth. i had decent coverage after a haircut and highlights, so i was pretty happy with the way things were improving.
a fair bit of ambiguity existed between months 4-6, wasnt really sure if i was shedding sometimes. you know how if you change your hairstyle a bit, or wear it a bit longer or shorter, or use different shampoos and product you never quite know how your follicles are doing.
a little bit before month 6, for the first time i believe, i saw a little shedding at the crown. normally the crown had been only a bit thinned, not as much as the rest of the scalp, and had been in good condition generally. this freaked me out a bit. but at the same time, the middle of my scalp seemed pretty thick - definitely better than month 2, probably better than baseline.
about half way through month 6, i think i saw a bit of regrowth at the crown, it improved a little i think.
then, at about 7 and a half months, my crown has lost quite a bit, to the extent where under normal/bright lighting, you can see through on a patch to the crown from above, no matter how i style it. at 8 months now, this is where my situation is. as for the rest of the hair, it has thinned a little bit since month 7, particularly the . i am hoping maybe this is a shedding period i am going through, and i will get regrowth. who knows.
something strikes me as weird about my crown thinning. you know the crown of your head, where theres a little gap of hair, even on non-balding people? well, mines a bit off centre - its a bit to the left. anyway, this bit on the left is thinning a bit. but the bit on the right isnt as much, fairly noticeably. does this mean anything? can you start getting a bald patch towards one side of your head!?
i am hoping i will see a bit of regrowth coming back, especially at the crown. really hoping the crown will fill in a bit now. cant have a bald patch by 19!!
what are my chances? anyone seen similar shedding patterns? i think ive had a bit of regrowth in the past. around months 3 and 6. is it possible to get regrowth at month 8+ you think? doesnt finasteride work best around the crown and mid scalp? could this just be part of the shedding cycle? any feedback would be much appreciated.
ps: one thing i did notice is that my hairline receded a bit from baseline to month 2 (only by about 1cm or so, maybe a bit less), but since then i havent seen any more visible recession.
i owe a lot to this site and am sure my hair would be in a much worse state had i not started finasteride, which again, was due to info from this site. thanks HairLossTalk.com and to you users. i probably will need to add minoxidil at some time, but its such a hassle compared to popping a pill of finasteride once a day, im trying to hold it off for some time, even after a switch to dutasteride if need be. i dont want to have to rearrange my life schedule around my hair. its amazing how when you get regrowth, or decent coverage after a while and things are looking up, what a difference it can make to your mood. im hoping this may happen in months 8+. let me know what you think, and experiences, particularly those on finasteride alone. this post is long enough!!..
