I just want to give a brief update about my situation after switching from Propecia--which I used successfully for 11 years, but had started to lose it's effectiveness--to Dutasteride, which I have been taking .5 mg of for the past six months.

My last update was 3.5 months into the swtich. This was the worst my hair had been in my entire life. My hair was extremely fragile and thin. At this time, there was not major shedding like I had experienced a month and a half after switching to Dutasteride, but my hairs were still coming out. About 4 months after the switch, though, I pretty much stopped losing any hair except the occasional hair here and there.

Around four and a half months after switching, my hair started to thicken up. I don't know if this was simply the hair coming back after my past massive shed on Revita, from my shed on Nizoral (which was due to my overuse of the product, not the fault of Nizoral), or my shed after switching from Propecia to Dutasteride. Irregardless my hair was actually looking quite thick for a week. And then it started to look thin again and feel kind of fragile, but still better than it was at 3.5 months. I would go back and forth from my hair feeling thick to feeling thin, and the situation would change several times a week. I can not explain how this is possible.

I would say that in the last two weeks, my hair has been looking a bit thicker consistenly, and there have been no days where I feel that my hair was feeling excessively thin. My ultimate goal is to get my hair back to where it was before Propecia stopped being so effective, however this may be an unrealistic goal.

To sum up, after six months, the thinning of my hair has definitely stopped. My hair is thickening up a bit. I hope in the next six months I see some more positive gains and can thicken up the front. I can safely say that I am happy I switched from Propecia. I will continue to update every month and a half or so.

Thank you for posting, we need more posts from people who have switched from Finasteride to Dutasteride.

Do you have any pictures you can share with us?

Hello. I wish I had taken pictures, even if just for my own reference, but alas I didnt and I am unable to share any pictures with you guys.

I received a major punch in the stomach a few days ago. I was talking to this girl and her friend who were sitting next to me at a coffee shop and we were having a decent conversation. Then I went back to what I was doing. Her friend told her to ask for my contact info. The girl said, and I sh*t you not, `his hair is thinning on top. Hes going bald` I was stunned overhearing this. I later regret not giving her a piece of my mind, but I have calmed down now.

But she is right. The Dutasteride and Nizoral are not doing enough. I am going to start using minoxidil 5 % once my shipment arrives in the mail. They say it takes about 2 months to start seeing results. I will therefore update two months after I start my Minoxidil treatment and let everyone know how the combination of dutasteride, Nizoral and minoxidil works. Wish me luck.
