500 Graft Fue - Weight Lifting After 1 Week?

Hey guys,

So I got a really small FUE procedure done - only 500 grafts. General recommendations for returning to weight training seem to be between 1 and 3 weeks depending on how conservative the surgeon is. There weren't any complications with my surgery, and I do not have any health issues which would necessitate extended recovery periods. But my surgeon seems to be one of the more conservative ones - recommending I wait 2 weeks before weight training to be safe. I am a professional athlete so I would like to return to training as soon as possible.

Got 2 questions:
1. Is it unreasonable to return to weight lifting 1 week after such a a small FUE operation?
2. Irrespective of whether you are 1 or 2 weeks post-surgery, do you have to wait until the donor site swelling has fully subsided before returning to exercise, or is this unnecessary?

Thanks

Nobody can really recommend anything to you because then they would need to take responsibility. They can recommend you not do any weight lifting because that is safe advice so take your doctor's advice only.

My own experience with FUE is that light weightlifting for me was not an issue after one week. I didn’t need to move a heavy load as I can compensate the load for speed. This avoids the valsalva maneuver which greatly increases blood pressure for a few seconds which is way above normal and probably something you do not want to do. I also do a great deal of iron fist, elbow, knee and shin training. Once again the pressure I feel is probably too high upon impact for me to be doing it during the first few weeks of the healing process so I just stuck with light weights at higher speeds. BTW my fue sessions were very small which probably also matters.

Even something like high reps deadlifts as I’m doing below increase the pressure too much so I took off. Although it's not perceptible I am performing the valsalva manuever on each and every rep.

When I say I was using light weight I mean really light weights like 10-20 lbs. So even though I love deadlifts I took a break. I have a thread I started in the health and fitness section showing the iron fist training once again I had to take a break even though I have been doing it daily for about 35 years. I understand it's not easy to take a break but it's part of the process.

The sides of my head were shaved and I fit right in at the gym as it’s an MMA gym with a lifting area. The only thing I'm missing are the tattoos because I know the ink goes into the lymph nodes over time and I don't want to deal with any potential for cancer. I live a healthy and honest life as those that are around me.

I believe there was a study done in which the grafts were shown to be secure at 10 days post op

I have seen @shookwun mention it a couple times

Thanks guys. How about just shooting around with a basketball and not running? In your opinion/experience is that okay 6-7 days?

Pics? 500 grafts is utterly useless unless all you're doing are temple points.

I am not a doctor but I imagine that the number of grafts does not matter as the grafts require the same amount of time to heal regardless of amount.
