3 months later and my hair is restored - maybe I had Telogen Effluvium?

Here was one of my first posts on this forum, back in June:

http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... hp?t=18651

Since then, here's what I've done:

- I tried MSM for one month, which gave me a rash and I had to stop (though I did notice my hair growing VERY fast).

- I tried a supplement for hair, nails and skin for one month, but since given up. This seemed to add some thickness maybe.

- 6 weeks ago I began taking Nourkrin/Viviscal every day.

- Tom Hagerty's scalp exercises for two months, probably only three times a week at most. Can't be bothered with them really.

- took up an intense form of yoga three weeks ago, go once a week. By the way, yoga is the most amazing, toning form of exercise I have ever done. I was doubtful too at first, but give it a go and you will be amazed.

The Outcome
My hair not only is restored to its former glory (NW1), it's significantly thicker than before. I first noticed this about a week ago. The difference in overall thickness is remarkable. It's like I'm dreaming, or maybe have woken up from a nightmare. I have to pinch myself to realise it's true. Another truly amazing thing is that my hair has grown A LOT in the past seven weeks. I had my hair cut shorter than ever before on the 21st July (grade 1), and it has easily grown at least 3 1/2 inches.

I don't know whether I had Telogen Effluvium or not, but I am delighted with my hair now. Not sure whether to continue taking Nourkrin though to be honest, as if my hair gets any thicker I'm not sure I'd be able to pass a comb through it.

Maybe this post will encourage some of you to think outside the box. Good luck to you all in any case.

That's great. I'm happy for you. However, I wouldn't call your success a resounding victory since you probably didn't lose that much hair, but nevertheless, I can imagine the great feeling you have knowing that you're partly in control over your hairloss. I never heard of Nourkrin or Viviscal, so could you expand your experiences with them. It's amazing all the treatments that are available and permutations possible these days. However, I have done all kinds of searching on this board for the most effective treatments, but nothing really seems conclusive. Do you think yoga really helped your hair?. I think this is possible because I found once I got into fitness, my hair growth improved. And, what is Telogen Effluvium? By the way, I just ordered some MSM, so I hope it works better for me than it did for you.

I'll pass that by chewbaca. See what he thinks about "Thinking outside the box may possibly restore hair (in under minute)".

hey 87david,

MSM is supposed to detoxify. It's apparently part of the process if you come out in a rash, etc. But for me, I found the symptom somewhat unpleasant and decided to try releasing toxins slowly via other methods (yoga).

I may take up MSM again since it's truly amazing for your skin and joints. You'll notice a massive difference if you take 4000 mg a day (which is what I was taking). It's the ultimate natural supplement really, as it's only one seventh the toxicity of salt :)

I don't know if yoga helped my hair or not. To be honest I think it must be the viviscal. It has very mixed reviews and probably doesn't block any DHT so some people are sceptical of it. It seems to have worked for me though.

But, this may be because I was suffering from Telogen Effluvium (I think this may have been the case). Telogen Effluvium is hairloss caused by stress, and not a form of male pattern baldness. On the other hand I did have recession in one temple, so who knows. Even if viviscal doesn't block DHT, I don't believe DHT blockers are the only thing you should look at. You should also nourish the hair in my opinion.

I do have pictures, but no way to get them on here at present. I'll post them up asap.

Hey Jambri,

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I think that MSM must be some pretty good stuff. I decided to purchase some after reading one person's post on "hairlosshelp.com" http://www.hairlosshelp.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=10&threadid=30900&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=
and many of the positive recommendations on this board. In the post listed above, he actually applies it topically. Although I'm a little bit skeptical, I'd probably bath in it if somebody recommended it ; )

The brand that I got is called "Country Life." It's a tablet, but I imagine that you can also get it as a capsule. BTW, you can also get it as a powder so you can get mix it in your favorite beverage or use it as a topical treatment. Also, I seen from one poster on this board is that the recommended form of MSM is Lignisul MSM. Just google it. I can't say whether or not that it is better because I never tried it. Here is a link to learn more about MSM and buy the various products.
