I apologize for the redundant “what is this” thread, but I’m a bit perplexed with my current situation.
I had very long hair and no thinning or balding was seen or noticed with that. After three years of growing it, I finally got tired of it with the maintaince and upkeep it took and cut it off. 14 inches was removed and I am going to donate that to a children’s charity that provides wigs for cancer patients.
Because of the way my hair grew, I had a very distinct part down the middle. My barber said wait a few days, wash my hair, and that it will retrain it self. The part in my hair did disappear.
However, there is a part of the crown of my head where I could clearly see through my hair and see my scalp. I immediately freaked out and started snapping pictures at different angles, different lightings, etc. The look of this described spot was literally different with every picture.
I went back to my barber, he assured me that it was a cowlick.
I sent a picture to a friend of mine who informed me that the reason I have an exposed portion of scalp is because I had my hair extremely long and it pulled at the crown area by simply just hanging.
Before I cut my hair, I had a tumor in my chest and was prescribed armidex and then letrozole because of a possibility of breast cancer. The tumor ended up being non cancerous. Never noticed ANY hair loss or patches during this time (this was pre-hair cut)
I am still very worried and concerned. It’s very noticeable to me.
My family history is as follows:
- Father didn’t have hair loss until 55 years old and possibly due to medication he’s been on.
- Both grandfathers had full heads of hair
- Great grandfathers: one had hair loss, the other had a full head of hair.
- One uncle (technically my half uncle) whose had significant hair loss.
Sorry to be so long. Please take a look and let me know what y’all think.
I have already set an appointment with a doctor to be sure and since it’s not advanced looking, if I am having hair loss, I plan to get on top of it now before further progression.
