Hello everyone, I’m a 30 years old male from US and I just had a hair transplant with Dr. Feriduni in Hasselt two weeks ago. I’ve been watching this forum for almost 5 years before I pull the trigger and go for the hair transplant and as you can see this is my first post but I felt like I need to pay back my debt and post my journey since many people here have been an inspiration for me and helped me to make up my mind and go on with the decision. I don’t think I need to talk much about Dr. Feriduni and his team since anybody who has done some research about hair transplant has probably heard his name. He is very patient and meticulous about his job and he took almost two hours to examine my head, calculate donor size and draw the desirable hairline. Day of the surgery Dr. Feriduni applied the anesthetic and then two of his nurses( Ms. Willmots and Ms. Martens if I recall correctly) started the manual extraction. I have to add that Dr. Feriduni told me after the surgery that both nurses have been with him for almost twenty years! During the extraction Dr. Feriduni was constantly checking on me and his team. The extraction took around 3 hours and then I had a short lunch break( Lunch was a super delicious sandwich provided by the clinic ). After the break Dr. Feriduni took over and started with the incisions which took around 2 hours. After the incisions were done, the same nurses took over placing the grafts which took around 3 hours. All in all the whole experience was super smooth with minimal pain although I have somewhat a high pain threshold! I stayed in Hasselt for a week after the surgery and went to the clinic everyday for the hair wash. I’ll try to update this thread of my progress every once in a while. For the starter here are some photos that Dr. Feriduni took when I was in Hasselt. Let me know if any questions and I’ll try to reply promptly. By the way, I have been on finasteride since 5 years ago and that’s been the only drug I’ve been taking for hairloss.

Looks like you’ll get a fantastic result - great hair! May I ask the cost of your operation and how many grafts were extracted, and to what density did he create per cm2?
Thanks

Thank you Pablo234. I had total of 2661 grafts. I’m going to ask the clinic about the ones, doubles and triples and report back if that’s your question. Same for density and area. If I remember correctly I had around 27 cm2 on one side and 20 cm2 on the other side which would make the avg density around 50 grafts per cm2. But I’ll double check with the clinic and report back the exact figures. I sent you a private message for the price I paid.

You look to have Very thick native donor, so I think 50 grafts p/cm2 will give a great dense look! Impressed with the cleanness of the work and hairline design - will look forward to receiving your pm.

I tried to send you a pm but I get an error message that I may not send you a message. Not sure why. See if you can send me a message and I’ll reply back.

Hello

Sorry to cut in on this thread. I have been lurking for a few years also.

I have received a quote from Feriduni, which seems quite expensive (more than what I can afford anyhow!)

Your hair looked ok to begin with!

Check my head out! How many grafts do you guys thins I would need?

Hey Chriswaun, obviuosly I’m not a doctor, but I think number of grafts depends on so many different things and it’s really hard to judge by pictures. I have noticed that even docotors are usually couple of hundreds off when they give you quotes. Send your pictures to a couple of doctors and you’ll see the difference. Hair caliber, skin color, desirable hairline, size of head, ...can affect the number of grafts. You also mentioned that Dr. Feriduni already gave you a quote, so I assume he gave you grafts estimate too. I don’t think anybody on these forums can give you a better estimate than a doctor who has been doing this for 30 plus years. I would also try to look at people with similar type and amount of hairloss and see how much grafts they usually get. Good luck with your hair transplant journey and please update us with your decision and result.

Hello guys, here is one month post op update as promised . Not much changes since after losing most of the grafts and almost back to where I was before surgery and maybe a little bit of a shock loss. I can see a few hairs sprouting out in the recipient area here and there.

Wow, your hairline looked great before the transplant, so I'm sure when more of the new hair grows in more, you're going to be really happy. As it is, it looks like it is already starting to fill out a lot. Out of curiosity, how long did it take for your grafted hair to fall out after the surgery? I keep hearing different time frames.

Thanks GaryinGeorgia. I’m hoping for the best :). I had most of the grafts in place up until 20 days post op. Starting 3rd week and 4th week most of the grafts fell and I was back to where I was before surgery. I think a lot of difference for when the grafts fall for people come from the way they wash their hair post op. I was too worried to mess things up and I stayed in Hasselt 10 days post op and went to the clinic every day for wash. At day 10 when I left hasselt I had almost 0 scab but Dr. Feriduni said 70-80% of grafts are still in place.

Hey guys, I did a 0 guard shave today and I thought it might be interesting for some people to see how you would look like 40 days post op especially in the donor area.

Looking brilliant , going to really follow this thread carefully as I think it’s going to be an excellent result and Dr Feridini is one of my future desired surgeons!

Did you receive an estimate of how many grafts left you have for future work? What was your predicted pattern of loss?

Keep it up with the recovery, by month 6 I’m sure Youl be a thick nw1

Thanks Pablo234, Dr. Feriduni said I’m in the lucky 5% population with high number of donor hairs. I think his estimation was 11000-12000 fue availabe in the safe donor region(rememebr that’s the total number of grafts in donor area). So I guess, I can get away with using 4000-5000 fue without looking thin in the donor region. I’m a normal norwood pattern and I have two uncles at stage 5-6. My only hope is propecia because it’s been working amazing for me with minimal side effetcs. Dr. Feriduni said I have no sign of miniaturization on crown and top. Hope that answers your questions.

Hey guys, here are 3 months update photos. I didn’t upload 2 months update because I razor shaved my head every week during the second month time frame. I like the result a lot so far and I think it looks very promising. Let me know your thoughts.

for 3 month , fantastic... you will be perfect at 8 month.
I'd like to ask a question : have you used something in the post surgery ( propecia/finasteride- minoxidil-multivitamin-msm etc -etc?)

No. I use Paul Mictchell tea tree as daily shampoo. I used the shampoo that clinic gave me for a few weeks after the transplant, but when I was leaving Hasselt 10 days post op Dr. Feriduni told me I can start using my own shampoo.
