Spironolactone is one of the oral supplements commonly used by transexuals.

Side effects? I would think YES, and potentially very dramatic ones. I'm not sure how much dosage is tolerable before your body starts to feminize, but I can assure you that oral spironolactone is not something to consider lightly.

As is Finasteride.

One aspect of male-female transgender therapy is blocking androgens via Finasteride & Spironolactone (usually using 5mg of Finasteride & and 200mg of Spironolactone daily). However, a potent anti-androgen routine by itself is not adequte in femizing a normal male's body. For such a task, in addition to the anti-androgen routine, potent estrogen (as well as possible progesterone) treatment must be used.

Spironolactone (orally) does have potential side-effects (the most serious being a build-up of potassium which could be lethal) and should not be taken lightly. In one study group, a 25mg or 50mg dose (cant remember which) caused development gynecomastia in 10% of men (man-tits). Oral spironolactone also has all the other side-effects possible with Finasteride at a higher rate of occurrence.

Not something to take lightly; I would not advise anyone to try it without doing their own thorough and extensive research. 25mg would probably be fine (that is a pretty small dose) but there aint no guarantees!

My guess is that 25 mg/day of spironolactone isn't going to have much in the way of side-effects, but neither is it going to have much in the way of DESIRED effects. You can't have your cake and eat it, too!

Socks, how is your libido/erections doing?

No more morning woods and libido has decreased. At first my libido seemed to take a big hit (wasnt horny at all for several days!) but now my libido is more then adequate for sex every other day (vs my normal once a day capability)... Erections dont come as fast, but they do come. When they do they are as strong as before and last as long as I need them to (which can be well over an hour of sex with the gf).

It might have all been in my head, but I thought my areola looked a little swollen after a week of taking spironolactone... Then around a few days ago it seemed to have went away... However, no tenderness or anything. I have been getting frequent headaches that Advil and Tylenol arent helping with but that may be more related several nights of bad sleep I've been getting due to stress.

All in all pretty minor and I sometimes question if I even have legit spironolactone!

I agree. Most studies in women with FPB (or hirsutism) showed the effective dose to be 100mg - 200mg daily. I would hazard a guess that you probably wont see any benefits under atleast 50mg with 100mg - 200mg being your best bet for results.

I have yet to see one pic of yours showing hairloss. Every pic shows ZERO hairloss. I hope you are not going through this for nothing.
