25, Losing Hair Fast - I Need Your Help!

So, I'm a 25 year old male who's been losing hair for a number of years now. I should have treated it earlier, but it didn't happen due to various reasons. That said, I'm really interested and ready for treatment options now.

I am losing a lot of hair any time I shower or just put water through my hair to brush it. I'm almost reluctant or scared to wash my hair because I don't want to lose more.

My hair is getting very thin, though I still believe I may be a good candidate for maintenance/regrowth. I am probably (unfortunately) working towards a 6 on the Norwood scale, though I am not yet completely bald in any areas (but getting close, fast!).

I have tried Costco's Minoxidil for a short time...not long enough, but I found it difficult to use because I have such a large area to cover. The liquid also seems to get absorbed by my hair, and my hair becomes brittle/stiff feeling and has a slight white tint to it. At that point, it's pretty hard to style, and I'm afraid to use any of the gel, spray or even water that I normally would use, because I don't really know if they will affect treatment.

I would really like some advice on what to do from this point...what will give me the best chance of regrowth? Money may be an issue, but not if the benefits significantly outweigh the cost compared to competing products.

There's a lot of information on these forums, and I hope to learn from each post...but I'm a bit overwhelmed right now, I don't know what to use or where to start...I'd just like some hair back, or to at least keep it.

I hate to make an assumption since I'm not a doctor and have never been suggested this by a doctor, but I do think my hormones play a large roll in my hair loss. I have very oily skin and still struggle with acne. I have even had a few cysts removed due to overproduction of sebum. My libido is over the top, and to be honest, is just as bad if not worse than when I was a teenager. I understand that some treatments may affect this, but to be honest, I think a little loss of libido might be nice in my case...it's just a little too overboard. I can't see myself ever having the extreme side effects that some have had, but if so, I know I can always discontinue use.

Thanks in advance for your help, and I hope to show you guys positive before and after photographs with the treatments you recommend and help me discover!

1.) Get on the big 3 regimen.

2.) Buzz your hair to 1/4 to 1/2 inch so the rogaine mess wont make it look much different.

3.) Wait for HM.

Thanks for your reply!

Questions:

Big 3 = Finasteride, Minoxidil, and ?

Someone told me once that their husband buzzed their head, and after that point (without treatment) his hair never grew back the same again. Does cutting your hair that short have any effect on this, or is that just coincidental?

Finally, what's HM? :)

Are there any other products or specific formulations of commonly used topical drugs that may benefit me more than the typical generic stuff I may buy?

I really want to go all out in attacking my problem, but only if the methods are proven to benefit. :)

christ... the big 3

finasteride, minoxidil, nizoral (shampoo)

though i would add minoxidil last and start with finasteride and nizoral

NO, haircuts do nothing in promoting, causing, effecting, male pattern baldness

hair does grow slower in someone with male pattern baldness though. it will take longer for your hair to reach your desired length.

The use of folligen or some other copper peptide in my opinion has helped increase the growth rate of hair. I have noticed with folligen use that my hair has grown back faster. You can give that a try.

I think a good diet, exercise and supplements is also very important, you might wanna try some scalp exercises too, see here> http://www.hairloss-reversible.com I'm only doing this stuff for a month and half so can't really say if it's helping but in the long run I believe it will, for now I think I'll have to start finasteride in an attempt to halt the thinning and loss until my "new" lifestyle and the SE kick in.

Thank you for all of the replies!

Regarding Minoxidil, are there any all-in-one topical treatments that combine minoxidil with other proven or helpful additives? I am aware of Prox-N and Proxiphen, but I agree that it is a bit pricey.

What would be the next in line down from Proxiphen?

That stuff likely wont do anything noticable over just using minoxidil. Just stick with it 5%, twice daily like clockwork, take the finasteride, use the shampoo and in a year your hair should look a lot better. It should take 3-5 years off your hairloss and it will fall out much slower after it peaks.

Sounds like a plan...last question would be...is there a cheaper place to get minoxidil than Costco? Or is there a better/easier formulation (cream/lotion/etc) that I should use?

how much is costco's?

sams club sells 4 months supplies for $22, last I checked.

if you want something that absorbs easier try rogaine foam. But it is twice as expensive.

i heard costco is 4 for 19.99. I wonder if my roommate would buy it for me if i give him money. That is like one woman asking another women to buy tampons for her.

Costco requires paid membership like Sam's Club does, so I'm guessing his friend has a membership while college doesn't. :)

i thought maybe that was it till he said the tampon thing which made me sound like he'd be embarrassed to buy it for himself. i don't know why he would be- i wouldn't.
