Hi,

I used to have insane amount of hair as a kid and a teenager. Once I hit 16-17, I had some acne and used Isotretinoin (Accutane) This led to shedding of some hair on the front. Didn't grow back either. Had 2 friends at the same age and time who used it, one of them had even worse shedding than me. Seems like each year after that, my hairline became worse. That, and maybe combined with age/genetics had led me to this result.

My father's side all have full head of hair, age between 51 up to 70 years. So zero signs from them. One is almost 70 and doesn't even have gray hair yet, just black.

Mother side have less hair, so it must be from them. Father of my mother had very little hair and was balding from early age.

I actually had very long and healthy hair a couple of years back, reaching longer than to my shoulders. It's just my hairline which was failing. No hairloss in the crown or whatsoever and my hair in general is pretty healthy as I exercise a lot, eat healthy and drink 2-3 liters of water every day.

It looks really bad when I drag my hair back, but when I keep it forward or style it my own ways, or keep it short as seen in some of the last pictures, it doesn't look that bad.

I am using Castor Oil every night on the empty parts and taking Biotin 10 000 mcg daily, and as you can see in the close ups, there are some new hair growing out and it does seem to help a few %, but that's about it.

I have tried Minoxidil in the past for about a year or so, and it did little to nothing. Only dry skin and "shiny" skin on the area.

Is Finasteride the only way to go for me? I'd rather not I have been thinking about waiting, then do a hair transplant, maybe in my 30s. I just don't fit the receding hairline thing, it looks out of place once you see me.

Thoughts?

Photos might be in incorrect order, but they are named. I am not expecting too much replies, but I figured it was worth a shot as I have visited this site a few times in the past

Finasteride helps a bit with the temples but it helps more in the crown and midsection of the scalp, still, you would be preventing further loss by getting on it.

edit: for the castor oil, try ingesting 1mL of it daily as well.

That's what I've read mostly about Finasteride.. It' mostly for crown and midsection. I guess it would be safer to use it just for preventing the hairline receding even more, but I am skeptical of its side effects..

I will look into the drinking Organic Castor Oil tip. Will probably taste horrible, but worth a try I guess. I googled it, but didn't find too much scientific information whether it helps with the hair growth/promotes hair growth. Especially since I am already applying a lot of it directly

I was on Tretinoin too. What about the shedding? Any thinning hair on back and sides ?

Sorry for the late respond.

No, I have no shedding. I don't have any thinning hair on the back. I might have a slight thinning on the sides where the mature hairline points.

The Castor Oil + Biotin is 100% working to a certain extent. But in no way will they regrow my whole hairline back. They seem to help with just filling out some spots. Take a look at these two photos from left side today. You can clearly see lots of new shorter hair. I did not have these before starting Castor Oil and Biotin.

My left side as seen in the first post, is emptier compared to my right side which is sort of acceptable so far to me. Right side also has new hair, but I didn't snap a photo because it's mostly noticeable on the left.

Any other tips? I have already started ingesting some Castor Oil before bed as well, but only like a small cap of the bottle.

@HeadingNorth get a dermaroller 1.5mm.
Sorry late reply

Do you have any experience with a dermaroller for regrowth in the temples? From what I've read, it seems like a sham or isn't really working?

I'd be scared to roll it around the place where my thinner hair is regrowing out again. I'd be scared to "tear" those hair follicles away if you get what I mean. Thoughts?
