Hello,

New to this.

I looked at my hairline & it seemed different. I decided to go to a Derm. The Derm looked & said, "Hey we all age does not look abnormal just your hairline going back a little. Just the side effects of getting older." I felt better.

I went to a second Derm. This one said, "Yes, your hairline is receding. You can try Minidoxil if you want. You have male pattern baldness." I said, "Oh my god I do. Will I go bald?" He said, "I do not know that. Very unlikely though."

I was really confused. How can I have male pattern baldness but not likely or vey unlikely to go bald?

My hairline is receding but crown and rest of my head very thick hair.

Family History:

Dad: Full Head of Hair
Mom: Full Head of Hair
Dad's Parents: Full Head's of Hair
Mom's Parents: My Grandma Full Head Hair & My Grandpa balding & greying at 16.

I am 25 I hoped I missed the young greying & balding pattern.

I can post pictures but what do you guys think? I am confused by what that Derm said.

Thank you!!!

You could start finasteride.
It is almost impossible to predict when hair loss will hit you.
I think minoxidil would be useless if you are not looking for regrowth which is very unlikely on the hair line.

I would get a third opinion from a hair transplant specialist and if he says you're balding give finasteride a try.

Thank you Dusty. I am seeing a 3rd in November. I do not get how I can have male pattern baldness & not go bald("very unlikely", as he put it)? I do not understand what he meant by that.

It is almost as he meant to say you are developing a mature hairline instead of saying you have male pattern baldness

Can you take some better more zoomed in pictures. Really hard to tell from those pictures.

Yeah there are a lot of unknowns and uncertainty with male pattern baldness still so its impossible to predict. With your history its possible you slowly lose hair over many years but never get past a Norwood 2 or go completely bald. Some derms know more about hair loss then others you should check that they list hair loss as condition. Yeah they might have thought mature hairline but I still personally consider that hair loss. A lot of doctors though dont see it that way
Hard to say from the pictures but if you have real male pattern baldness you will not have doubts and it will be noticeable at some point. You have baseline pictures just watch it and see. I would wait a little and be sure before going down that road of a pill everyday for life.
