Hi,

I'm 24 and noticed hair loss at the crown/back of my head a year ago. I am not thinning at the temples and it's still pretty thick on top. I don't have a bald spot yet, but the hair is getting pretty thin at the crown. I started propecia about 3 months ago but have noticed no improvement. I realize you have to be on it 6 months or so to determine if it's going to help. I haven't used rogaine yet...do you guys think it's worth the time, money, and effort? When I shampoo my hair I lose probably 10-15 hairs everytime. Usually lose a few hairs everytime I run my fingers thru my hair too. Is this normal or is this part of the hair loss? Like anyone else I sooo do not wanna be bald and maybe it wouln't be a big deal at 40 or something but I am only 24! My mother does have some bald men on her side of the family, namely her uncle and brother. Guess it was always in the stars for me. Can you guys please give me some ideas on how to at least maintain what I have? Is Nioxin worth the $$ ? My dermatologist says no. Thanks! - Bret

Just stick with Propecia for 8 months before you consider adding Rogaine. As a general rule (but everybody is different), hair loss should stop at about 4 months and regrowth (if it occurs) should appear in the following few months.

Sounds like I'm pretty much where you are...hang in there!

Use the rogaine. Its cheap and easy to apply and smells good with their new foam version. Its as about as cumbersome as putting on deoderant.

If you're already taking propecia, you don't need to start rogaine. Rogaine is for baldies, not people with small areas of thinning. If you want to add a topical, use stuff like spironolactone or tricomin, or a shampoo such as Nizoral (or Revita once it comes out). Those don't have the potential for weird side effects that minoxidil(rogaine) has, such as puffy face, extra body hair growth, massive shedding, etc.
