I just bought rogaine foam but after reading it said only works on vertex not in front. I'm 22 and when i look at pics when i was younger it looks like my hair was slowly receeding. What would you reccomend? I don't want my head smelling like crap and don't really wanna loose any sex drive or something like that. thanks

i'm pretty new at this stuff.. im guessing propecia is an androgen blocker?
and the 2% minoxidyl .. is it less effective then 5%? i would guess it is, but how much? should i expect results with only 2%?

edit: sorry for hijacking OPs thread btw, but i guess its cool since we're on the same boat here, with exactly the same hairloss:)

and ps: after i started propecia0.5mg+nizoral 2x week, ive noticed a decrease of hairloss .. very noticeable when im in the shower .. been on propecia for like 8 months now .. also noticed some tiny hairs on my hairline, but really thin and white, meh ... oh and sex drive hasnt changed for me, and no side effects so far .. i did however have sore nipples at first, but i guess that was a mixture of paranoia and touching them alot at start, checking them for lumps, hehe. was afriad og getting those man tittehs, but everything is great

Update: I've been ubsing rogaine foam, nizoral 1%, and finastride 5mg cut into 4 peices for about 4 months. Finastride for about 3months. I'd like to stay on this routine but the past few weeks I've noticed I've been getting acne around my mouth. I used to have moderate acne but haven't in a few years. I've read people breaking out while on finastride and not sure what to do or if this is a connection. Any thing else I could replace instead of finastride? I'm going to wait a few weeks and see how things go.

Classic example of people trying to attribute a potential side effect to finasteride.

I doubt that it's the cause of it. However, if it is, then get something to treat the acne. Acne can be treated with other things, but finasteride is really the only way to go when it comes to baldness.

Is minocyline ok to take with finastride? I'm not 100% sure but I googled it and others had problems too.

If my hair were to regrow would it come back slowly in the opposite way it receded or would small hairs start to grow in the entire area where I have no hair now?

Drug, after drug, after drug. It is a horrible cycle that you are beginning.

You are 22. Go out, and find yourself natural alternatives (internals, topicals). Admittedly, the results might not be as dramatic initially, but long-term, you will look and feel healthier.

I was not on drug after drug. I recently went on finastride to stop hair loss, and thats the only drug i was on. After being on finastride for about 3-4 months my face started to break out bad. I'm 95% sure the breakout is because of finastride. Now i'm thinking about trying to control acne with mincycline, and i don't know if that will even help. I'm also taking nizoral and rogaine foam. If i stoped taking finastride is there anything else i could try along with my topicals? I know finastride is best but i can't deal with acne like this for much longer.

The only side effect i have is acne, other than that i seem to be fine. I'm taking 5mg cut into 4 pills which is 1.25mg per day. I'm going to try taking 1mg cut into 4 pills which would be .25mg per day and see if my acne improves. Any other suggestions, thanks

Dude, Rogaine can work wonders on your hairline if you just keep apply it for a couple more months. It almost completely restored mine! Im using the 5 percent one.

patience is the key!

Nice man thats good to hear. i am going to keep using rogaine foam and nizoral, i was just looking to add anything else that may help. As of now i'm going to stop taking finastride and hopefully my face will clear up. Then i'll try a .25mg daily dose of finasteride and see if my face doesn't act up.

Any other pill besides finastride with minimal side effects? I think the problem with finastride was the dht reaction i had. I've read up on it and many people had a reverse reaction and were breaking out b/c of finasteride.

thanks for help

The drugs (or drug- finasteride) designed for hair loss in theory would be much safer than any natural alternative. Just because something is natural, it is not necessarily safe. The drugs are made to work most effectively and as safely as possible. There will not be any natural product on this earth designed solely to stop hair loss, so not only will they not work as well (or at all) but they can still have serious side effects. Saw palmetto can cause impotence just as propecia apparently can. If you want to argue the 'natural' case properly, you should be completely against fighting hair loss in the first place.

I have been on finasteride/minoxidil for 6 months consecutive now( went off b/c i was breaking out but now seem to be doing fine)

Do you think i'll be able to grow hair back in front? if i did grow hair back would it start growing all over or from the back first?

also, how much would surgery cost and what method would u reccomnd (fue?)

thanks

finasteride CAN work. There are lots of guys who have used it and had results and no sides. You just have to be patient. Ive read some ppl see growth on the crown area first when on it but also all over. minoxidil isnt supposed to help with frontal much. Surgery... no idea, a lot i guess! :)

If you decide to do anything use the proven 2 things and dont send more snake oil guy kids to college we have enough of those already. Not a lot of options but see a doctor or derm dont self treat it if you can afford it.
