hi yes it is receding. have you considered Minoxidil(Rogaine or Regaine) or Propecia (need a prescription)? shampoo is not going to do much to your thinning hair, though some good ones might make your hair look thicker but that is about it. I would go see a doctor!

Ok thanks. Could you explain to me exactly how you came to the conclusion that it is receding? Like do the strands of hair look thinner or something in addition to my hairline?

The good news is you're young and have plenty of hair today. You have 2 options as I see it.

1) Use the photos you've just posted as a baseline and monitor for change over the next 6-12-18 months. Maybe even go so far as to take high-res photos of your hairline and using landmarks (moles, freckles, etc) create some squares/triangles of hair and count the individual strands inside. Repeat this process as much as you wish. I'd say a decrease approaching 20% over time would be suspicious. Remember, there will be natural fluctuations in hair-count over time.

2) Don't f-around for one more second and get on finasteride. Ask your a dermatologist for a generic prescription to finasteride (Proscar) and aim to take something like .5MG per day - that would be 1/10th of a pill. Only after some time accessing the effectiveness of the finasteride using the same photo-taking method described above would I up the dose or add on something else like minoxidil, which I doubt you would ever need.

You are young and haven't lost much. My father is 65 and has a similar head of hair to you. I thought my receding would stop with a gentle recess like my father but I was wrong. By the time I found out I was wrong I was in military/college/grad school and unable to afford the $60+ a month for finasteride. Cost is no longer an excuse for anyone.
I get my generic finasteride from Target and it was literally $9 for 30-5MG pills.

If I were you I'd probably wait it out for a bit and monitor with photos for 100% verifiable change. Then, if I noticed a change, I'd get on finasteride first. These days you don't have to lose it bro.

Peace and Love.

Thanks. I'll try option 1 for the next 6 months or so. I'm hesitant to use finasteride because of all the side effects it can cause. I actually knew of the side effects of finasteride and had an opinion on it a couple of years ago before I even considered going bald. Loss of libido and ED kind of defeats the whole purpose of trying to look good

My hair is wet from just getting out of the shower in these pictures. Keep in mind I tried to take the most unflattering angles and hair positions as possible. The second picture is with deliberately trying to make the corners look as high as possible. The last 3 are with my hair parted to the right side of my head, thats why you can some scalp in the last picture.

Thanks again. What type of doctor is best to consult? And what is the general cost of a consultation?

i've had a few so this will be kinda stream-of-concisious.

with the new photos I think I'll update my advice and say: get on finasteride now bro.

look on yelp for recommended dermatologists in your area and investigate their websites as some know more about men's hair issues then others. call for an appointment and if you do not have insurance just ask for the cost of a visit with the Doctor - should be in the $75-$95 dollar range out-the-door. if the receptionist asks why you want to see the Doctor be straight up and say I'm interested in a prescription for finasteride for my hair..and make no mistake they've had this call many many times before - you are not the only dude calling about his hair.

during your visit just tell the Doctor you want a prescription for 5MG pills of generic finasteride, also sold as Proscar. all those commercials say 'ask your doctor about...' for a reason - a lot of these mf'ers are just glorified drug dealers giving people what they ask for.

chances are as long as you are not OCD you will not have a problem with sides - do not read/watch horror stories.

also use your Regenepure, and as long as you don't get lazy with your routine in 10 months when your hair is awesome you'll be pretty good for the forseeable future. and yeah, you'll have to take the finasteride to maintain until the super-cure comes out in 2025!!

Your GP, if they are good, will be able to tell you if your hair is thinning. otherwise ask them to refer you to a dermatologist. I am not sure how much it costs to see a doctor in US. here in Australia, its about $30 to see a GP and much more to see a dermatologist. Call them up and ask how much they charge. or if you have a hair clinic nearby, get an appointment with them (do not buy anything from them though. over priced). Any family history of hair loss by the way? don't be paronoid over something that may not be there. Wait til you are 100% sure! Good luck! Cheers!

So I'm not using anything yet, because I don't know for sure if I'm losing hair or not. My hairline has bothered me for several years now, but I don't know if I've seen a concrete change or not. I think what got me so worried is that when I got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago, the lady insisted that she thinned my hair. I think that made it look worse. My hairline might just be naturally pretty high. My grandfather's is, sort of like Johnny Drama from Entourage.

I plan on using the pictures in this thread as a comparison for my hair in 6 months. I also might see a specialist during that time period to get an expert opinion. Does this sound good?

These photos were taken this morning before a shower (I had oily bed head), and after combing my hair straight back and matting it down with a baseball cap for a little bit.
