Whats up everyone. Deal is that I have a history of male pattern baldness in the family. My dad, his dad, my uncle on my moms side, and I didnt know her father. Currently I am receding in my hair line and seem to be losing a ton of hairs daily. I have read some boards so I have a few questions.

1. Is it a bad idea to use propecia when your in your early 20's (22)
2. Do propecia and rogain only work for a limited period. (5-10 yrs)
3. Does working out help or hurt the cause
4. In your opinion best ways to go about early hair loss.
5. To do's and not to do's

Any help would be greatly appreciated

1. No, i began with your age
2. Propecia and minoxidil will do their job, your body don't get used to treatments, what changes is the hairloss's strongness. All depends on the subject's genetic
3. Working out is good to health in general. Period. I've experiencied regrowth while i worked out everyday. And better bald and fit then bald and fat. You won't be bald because of working out, unless you do steroids.
4. Start with 0.5 propecia dosage. Add nizoral. If things get bad, jump to minoxidil
5. Do the treatment and do not worry, because if you are on treatment, you are doing everything you can. No guilt ;)

1. Should be ok, check with your Dr though. Beware side effects - some people have a bad time.
2. Results vary. Some people report decreased effect after 5-10 years but perhaps this is just their advanced balding.
3. Depends on your genetics. Heavy body building with high volume will likely hurt. Aerobic exercise usually helps and keeping off weight (fat) helps.
4. Use known treatments with at least some science which are safe for a start. Mainly topical treatments (see my sig)
5. Do not chop and change programs - it takes at least 3 months and more likely 6 months to evaluate if a program is working. Don't use too many products at once for a start. You won't know what helps and what doesn't.

Would you recommend the Rogain foam? Or do you think I should go for the propecia? I have not done much research on the pos's and neg's or either - can you get propecia at like a walmart or something?

Say what? Naw man, your gonna have to do your homework before you up and start taking powerful medicine like propecia. Rogain is a hair growth stimulant but doesn't address the issue of DHT attacking the hair follicle. Propecia (finasteride) lowers DHT levels throughout the body and scalp but can also seriously f*** you up if you are prone to its side effects. Have a look at my sig for treatments I'm trying to replicate the effect of finasteride with.

Family Hairlooms, how aggressive is your hairloss in you family? what Norwood is your dad for example?

You should get into finasteride because it is really the only thing that fights the real cause of balding (dht). all the topicals except minoxidil which is a growth stimulant as already said are not proven to help male pattern baldness even though they might.

You will regret later after you lost a lot of hair not trying finasteride now. if you have some side effects, just drop it.

zxAddict, how have your topicals been working?

So far so good. 'Shedding' (coming off finasteride) has all but stopped and I see lots of new growth coming in mainly within the hairline but a few small uns perhaps up to 5mm below the 'tree line'. But its still too early to say - hasn't even been a month since I started. If it works well I'll post something up in the success stories forum - though I really can't be bothered taking photos - I don't want to spend that additional time when I already have enough fluffing around.

saw palmetto, what are your opinions? - to answer your question my dad is probably a stage 5 Norwood and I'm right around a 1.5 or 2 - I just started to notice that I was losing hair more than usual. So rogain is a no go??????

Generic is just fine. I only prefer Dr Lee's as its less greasy and dries fast. And his shipping is cheap and quick.
