Hi Everyone

Firstly thank you for having a look at my post. I've been stressing about my hair loss all year except I haven't really done anything about it. I'd just like to maintain my current hair levels.

I have always had a 'cowlick'. I can remember being in primary school and the teacher noticing it. It seems obvious to me that my hair has definitely receded at the temples. I do have extremely thick, curly hair. Currently I am growing it out as long as possible.

I used to straighten my hair every day for a few years! I hated curly hair and had was very self conscious about it. This has probably damaged it but I don't know if it would cause this type of hair loss.

I get very anxious about my shedding. In the shower I always have hair in my hands and I believe I'm losing probably 100+ hairs a day.

I'm kind of in two minds. I don't really want to take drugs and all that **** all my life but I also would like to keep my current hair levels.

What would everyone recommend? Currently I am trying hair scalp exercises and I believe they are working somewhat. I do really believe the theory behind them.

Dad is bald but with some hair still hanging around the top. My grandfather is somewhat bald. Mothers side had great hairlines.

hi I see you have high temples and a bit of thinning going on there. If you didn't want to take propecia, Minoxidil or/and Nizoral shampoo would do good. However, you have a family history of hair loss and you'd want to have a DHT blocker in your regimen to prevent further hair loss down the track. You are only young so why don't you try Minoxidil for a year or so to see if it helps at all?

I'm in the exact same boat, except my hairline is worse and I am 18.

I want to stop my aggressive hairloss but I don't want to be taking pills every single day for the rest of my life - stopping so will result in virtually all of my maintained hair to drop out.

A few years down the line I will probably regret the decision to not immediately jump on the 'big three' but I am currently sitting on the fence with what I should do about this.

Hi Talmoodle and Anon587, thanks for your replies.

Firstly Talmoodle, I have purchased Rogaine 5% and used it for probably a month and then kind of just forgot about it/stopped. I have started again the last couple of days but even using Rogaine worries me due to the chemicals. I only use a very small amount on my receeding hairline and temples. I think I should react positively to it as I don't really remember any side effects when i used it for a month. I guess I'll just keep putting it on every day or 2 just around my temple and hairline.

Anon587- yeah it does look like we are in similar positions. I think mine has been like this for a while. I haven't noticed it get too much worse but I fear it will! I think the scalp exercises are great. I can't tell if they have done anything at all but Its worth it. I read another success thread with someone who combined the big 3 and scalp exercises and they had amazing results. I think I will monitor my hairline and if it gets much worse I will start the Propecia pills or whatever is the best option in terms of DHT blockers. I have very thick hair so I hope it is a slow process.

Also I would like to add- I have Gyno(puffy, large nipples). Ive had it ever since I can remember. I don't mind it too much as I work out a lot and actually have a really tight, strong chest. I was wondering if gyno could be an underlying hormonal issue adding to my hairloss? I've had blood tests that didn't come back with any underlying medical conditions. I am very healthy and active so I don't know if my hair loss could be due to a medical condition. I doubt it but I'm not sure. Maybe I should consult a doctor about my hair?

Uploaded some more photos. My hair is quite long. Last time I got it cut I actually got it thinned with these scissors. Not sure if that would of had any effect on the hairs growing back. I really wanna grow my hair quite long but I'm thinking about cutting it to watch my results.

I am going to try Rogaine again after looking at some success stories on the forums and some recommendations from other users. I will keep updating with pics. Might try that Nizoral shampoo as well maybe once a week or so. I rarely wash my hair.

Also I am constantly doing scalp exercises.
