Hi everyone,

As I put in the title I'm a 21 year old guy in school, and I could use some advice. The thing is I'm kind of self conscious about how I look, especially about my hair. Now in all honesty I'm a decent looking guy, I try and stay in shape, and pertaining to my hair, if it stayed the way it is now for the rest of my life I'd be happy. Yet like some I'm already seeing signs of a receding hairline and this is really bothering me, maybe more then it should. I mean it's not major at this point and I know I've fared better then some of my peers but nonetheless I tend to focus on it.

Now my question is, what should I do about it? I mean it's not major, yet, but I'm wondering if there are any preventative steps I could be taking now. Or should I just ignore it and possibly take action at a more advanced stage if it comes to it? Like I said I'm a student so I dont have a ton of money to throw at pills or products, and I'm not even sure if I want to start putting chemicals in or on myself at this point in my life. Yet I'm open to the idea if it's reasonably priced and won't have bad side affects.

Anyways I'd love some advice from anyone, especially if you've gone through something similar. I know my hair doesn't define me, but I really like it haha. Thanks for reading.

hi dave..I would say you take pics of your hair once every few months to see and compare if the thinning/balding process continues..also many people here at thier very early stage of hair loss use nizoral shampoo a couple of times a week. By the way, do you have soreness or pain on your scalp? or is your scalp itchy? When I first started to notice hair loss, that was the first symptom that came along with the horrible shed...

I've got this off the internet:
http://appsthatpayyou.hubpages.com/hub/Stop-Itching-Scalp-How-To-Stop-DHT-Itch

Does Nizoral work? Yes, I can confirm, Nizoral shampoo has stopped my scalp itch. I started using this after reading a number of positive posts on various hair loss blogs. It works well and quickly. The secret is in its active ingredient; Ketoconazole, which effectively fights male pattern baldness through several methods; namely neutralising the inflammatory cytokines, malesszia yeast (which naturally occurs in the scalp gets out of control) and the inhibiting of dht binding to receptor sites in the scalp androgen receptors.
It must be said, that it is still a topical DHT inhibitor and so is still a fairly mild DHT inhibitor, and thus must only be used to compliment other hair loss treatments, and not as a stand alone.
Nizoral shampoo contains ketoconazole, which is antifungal and effectively kills fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes. This stops the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes, effectively causing holes in the cell membrane.
Nizoral or other Ketoconazole shampoo can be used to wash the affected areas, and left on for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing off. For dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, the shampoo should be used to wash the hair about twice weekly for two to four weeks. Once these conditions have cleared up then you can just maintain the situation by using the shampoo once every one to two weeks.
I've found Nizoral to be very effective, with the only side effect of a slightly dry scalp. This can be easily combated with a good zinc pyrithione conditioner; like Head & Shoulders.
Does Keto shampoo remove scalp DHT? I can say it does somewhat, but it is more a scalp cleaner and anti-fungicide. In my opinion, Alpecin shampoo is much more effective at removing scalp DHT. Did Nizoral regrow my hair? No I can't say that it did on it's own. Will Nizoral prevent hair loss? On it's own it won't, but it will reduce the inflammation and the compulsion to scratch, so indirectly yet. I have found that nizoral, combined with Alpecin does stop hair shedding almost completely.
