so I am 21 and started noticing hairloss around December and I didn't start finasteride till late January and now I believe it's destroying my hair I've been on almost 6 months and my hairline is getting worse and worse by day it's crazy within a year I've went from people saying how thick and nice my hair was now it's so bad I cut it down low I'm about to quit finasteride it's killing me
Me a little over a year ago:

About 4 months ago right about a king or 2 in:

And me now:

What do I do? I thought it was helping the first 2 months now it's just shedding and coming out like crazy I might give up.

If you are going to stop I suggest doing it slowly, suddenly coming off will be a shock to the system.

But its hard to say, you're only 6 months in so the initial shedding phase is kinda just ending and there can be other factors that can be contributing, like seasonal shedding? If you are concerned go see a doctor and get some advice!

I can think of three possible causes for your situation:
1. your hairloss is too aggressive and finasteride isn't enough to halt it. (it happens)
2. The finasteride you're taking isn't legit.
3. There's another separate condition making your hairloss worse, either telogen effluvium or something else altogether.

All in all, you should go see a hairloss specialist (not a regular derm, a REAL specialist), he should be able to figure it out whether no3 is what's happening to you or not.

Not to say no1 can't happen, not everyone responds to finasteride, so it might be that you're one of the unlucky ones. If you have no sides then consider asking for a prescription of dutasteride, it's stronger and might help you, although you'll need Minoxidil to regrow the lost hair and Minoxidil is the most troublesome of the current hairloss treatments. Without an anti-androgen you'll go bald 100%, so your options are limited for now i'm afraid.

Stick with it. I started to see improvement around 6 months, at 8 months I stopped shedding all together. Now my hair is thickening up nicely. Give it time man. Thank you for the response this sight is 1000x better than baldtruthtaIk

Looks nice and thick dude. I wouldnt start minoxidil unless it's absolute nessecary. doubt it would improve your situation much.

It's also alot of hassle.

Thank you! It just seems like people with rediculous results use a combination of the 2 it's rare to find it happening with just one

Yeah well they usually have bald spots/lots of diffusion. You have neither.

Fullhead.

Minoxidil wont stop it, it's a growth stimulant.

Finasteride on the other hand may, just keep at it.

Hair looks great at the moment. Keep on finasteride.

minoxidil at this stage would be a pain in the *** and likely not give you any results

Thank you but it still is worse from when I started finasteride, and I am still shedding like crazy, my hair in general is just a lot thinner than when I started finasteride

Okay I am just trying to thicken up and maybe regrow some of my hair line that's where it's getting most thin at the moment
