I do think op may be experiencing some thinning....his hair might be changing do to age and androgens ..

I seen an article that actually says wash your hair three days in a row and then on the fourth after a showrr and completely dry you should only lose 15. It's called the comb test .... Confusing as fukk

When my hair is dry i can put my hands through it pretty rigorously and only a couple hairs fall out

Another way to tell is just feel your hairs back of head and then feel the hair on area you concerns. If hairs feel like lifeless too soft then definitely thinning is there.another way is to pluck hairs from donor area and area you concern ,with magnifying glass see the color texture and thickness .if there is thin hair from front then you are balding.

This is pretty hard because the hair in front is very long and sticking up while the hair on sides and back are short and down.
