Hey guys, new to this forum and recently have been worrying about my hair. Its always been thick for most of my life but in the past couple years or so have noticed some receding on the hairline. The crown looks fine but i'm not sure if that's just because the length of my hair covering it, however, the top and crown does feel a bit thinner. Never really noticed losing an abnormal amount of hair. Yesterday I ordered Nizoral 1% and almost ordered minoxidil but was skeptical. From reading this forum it seems the general consensus would be to start on finasteride.

A few questions about finasteride: In the US, can I get a prescription from a walk in clinic or do I need to go see a dermatologist? I saw prices from Costco and Target (proscar) seem to be way cheaper and how would I go about getting proscar? Lastly, how common are the side effects from personal experiences and reading on this forum?

Is my worrying warranted? Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/ivI3B

Will finasteride/minoxidil help me or too far gone?

Appreciate any help

Yeah you're receding man. Get an appointment with a dermatologist. Tell him or her that you are worried about your hair and are wondering if Finasteride would be right for you (they should say yes). Ask for the generic 5 mg Finasteride pills and tell them you'll cut them up into 4ths (1.25 mg a day). You can get the script sent to target it's apart of their "Cheap Generics" list, I get mine there too (Like $4 for 4 months worth because my insurance covers it). I've been on it for over a month now, the only thing I have noticed is a little lower sex drive which is good for me because I would basically get a boner anytime I talked to a pretty girl haha. It seems that guys who are younger seem to get the best results out of Finasteride so I think you should be good.

You can add minoxidil right away if you want, however some might say you should just give finasteride a year and see what it does for you. Kind of wish I would have done that route first because putting on minoxidil everyday can be a pain in the add after a while.

Best of luck.

It could be, but I'd double check. I know a few people who receded there but then it just stopped and they still have all their hair 10 years later. Best go get professional advice.
