Hello, I just made an account and would be interested in the opinion of other users who are experiencing hair loss. I just turned twenty, and for the last four years, since 16, I have seen my temples, frontal hairline and frontal latch of hair generally thin out. It is barely noticeable, no one else has ever noticed it, but I got my hair checked under a special microscope and there are many miniaturized hairs and a loss in overall density. Since it has been going on for at least four years, but very slowly, I don’t believe that I have very aggressive hair loss. The thing is that I am only twenty, so aggressive or not I am pretty sure that in five years my hairline area will be noticeably thinner or completely bald. That’s ok, I have accepted that I won’t have a full head of hair for a long time. I would however like to hold onto it for another five years and I am not interested in taking finasteride. I have started intense scalp massages and I am thinking about applying minoxidil foam. I know that the root cause of male pattern baldness is blood circulation and mostly dht strangling the hair follicles. I am not willing to take an anti androgen though, so there is no stopping it, just postponing it. Do you think that I can keep my hair thick for some more years with minoxidil? Thanks for your time.

Many of the hairs that I am shedding are almost transparent and are thinner at the roots than at the ends. My frontal hairline is slowly but surely receding and thinning out, plus many of the hairs at the hairline are lighter and weaker.

Crowns and hairline is fine. I wouldn’t be worried unless you notice a lot of shedding
Well the only worrying part is that many of the hair strands that I shed are thin and the roots are thinner than the ends. My hairline has slightly receded (last year it wasn’t as high as now) and I have noticed a loss in frontal volume in the last two years. I want to do something to maintain my hair, as long as it doesn’t have to do with hormone altering drugs like finasteride or dutasteride. Should I go on minoxidil for maintenance?

Somewhat blurred photo is from hairline about nine months ago and the last two are from these days. There is a change. Should I just massage my scalp and forget about it or go on minoxidil?

How much do you shed! Go see a derm.
I probably should. I wouldn’t worry if I didn’t notice the hairs that I shed being very thin. Also seeing my hairline lose density and having many transparent hairs that don’t grow was an indicator of recession. Anyways is it true that if you stop using minoxidil you might even lose healthy hairs due to a developed dependence on the product?

reduce testosterone, androgens are harmful to the hair. Take testosterone inhibitors, along with estradiol.

Miniatuization does lead to hair loss, but given your age, it could simply be a maturing hair line. That said, if that is the case it should stop soon.

If you can wait, take pictures every 3 months and see if it continues progressing. If it doesn’t stop in the immediate future you’ll have your answer. If, however, you need immediate answer, go to a dermatologist. I would recommend the latter...the only thing worse than knowing is not knowing.

Also, do you have a picture from when you were younger (16), preferably, that shows your hairline at that time? If we had that as context we could give you far better answers.

The picture with the short hair is from three years ago. The second and third are from today. With lights you can obviously see my scalp.

Okay they weren’t uploaded in the order I said but the one with short hair is the old picture.

I am quite hesitant about using dht inhibitors and messing with my hormones but at these early stages I can probably maintain my hairline with minoxidil for some more years. I’m okay with going bald, just not quite yet. I am growing my hair out though and I am afraid that if I apply it now I will lose my progress due to the initial shedding.

It seems your hair looks fine. IMHO nothing to worry about.
Thanks for the feedback. The only thing that worries me is the fact that for some years my frontal hairline area (not just the hairline but about two to three inches back up until the middle of the vertex there is less coverage, I did a micro spice inspection and found less follicles and many weak ones). Plus the middle has taken a hit.

You may be in the very very early stages of hair loss. The only thing that you can do if you do not want to take Finasteride (understandable at this stage) is Minoxidil. I use Lipogaine and like it as it has some androgen blockers in it as well. Be aware of an initial shed when you begin.

[/ QUOTE]

No, you won't. Minoxidil is very minimal efficacy in terms of hair growth, although it will usually help a little. Your best, and really only bet is finasteride.

Forget testosterone inhibitors n estradiol, this guy talks bro science all the time. You'll see nobody else trumping this low efficacy model in the science community nor in any peer reviewed studies. Trash that advice.
