Hi guys,

I'm a 20 year old male who has thinning hair/a receding hairline. Based on charts, I would say I'm a Norwood 2-2.5. It doesn't look too bad b/c I haven't cut my hair (particularly on the front/top of my head in YEARS). I just trim with a pair of scissors, at the sides. Even though I haven't cut my hair, it refuses to grow from the top. You can't tell that I'm actually growing it out b/c it doesn't grow!!!
My hair is very oily and contains dandruff no matter how much I wash. I use shampoo only once a week as I heard it damages hair. I wash with water every other day.
My problem is that my hair looks like ****. I don't want to get a haircut b/c it will show my receding hairline/thinning.
I don't want to go on Propecia- considering the disastrous side effects and considering that I don't have health insurance at the moment. Rogaine is usually not advisable unless you have severe male pattern baldness.

I was thinking of shaving my head completely and getting a hair system. From what I've read, they're very realistic. I really hate my natural hair. It's brittle, thinning, and of poor quality. I can't rock the bald look as it doesn't suit me.

Is my plan somewhat reasonable? If not, what should I do? I am dorming in college but can go home for the weekends. Therefore, if I do get a hairsystem, I can always remove it and clean at home.

As I said, I am scared to take Propecia and can't get a prescription ATM. This is pretty much a ticking time bomb as I rarely see 20 year olds with shaved heads.

Is the hair system idea reasonable?

Appreciate any advice! Thank You!!

If you really want to go the wig route, I suppose you can. I don't know.
I think you should consider Propecia. Health insurance isn't going to cover it no matter what. It's cosmetic.
Anyway, can you post pics?
I'm 20 too by the way. I know, it sucks, but I've gone from freaking out about it in September to sort of accepting it by December. I'm planning on going on Propecia next week. There's only so much we can do, and girls don't care too much I don't think. They care much more about confidence/personality.
But really, look at all the guys who have had to deal with this. Prince William is going bald, and Heath Ledger was losing it before he died too...he was only 28, and if you look at photos it honestly looks like he had a receding hairline at about 16.

I started Propecia in mid September and it's done wonders (along with Minoxidil and nizoral), no side effects. Proscar is really cheap €30 for a 4 month supply. Why not try it? You might not get sides, most people don't, and if you do get sides then you can always quit!
