i have been on propecia for two months and am continuing to see a loss of hair. i dont believe what im seeing is shedding because it is only on my MBP areas. is it normal to continue to see hair loss or should i have seen significant improvement by now? i have tried to read up on this but have been unable to get a clear answer.

i guess i am looking for any definitive way to tell whether or not the drug is working.

thanks! and i cant wait to contribute more to this forum

takes way longer than two months man. 6 if youre lucky, but judging by what I've read most people say on this forum....6 is only the halfway mark

ok good, thats kind of what i figured.

so when they say propecia helps you maintain your hair, is that saying that you maintain the hair you had when you started taking the drug OR the hair you have when you finally stop losing it (6 months down the line or so...)

I've been on finasteride for about 4 months now. In the first two months I noticed a huge shed, and it continued slowly until about 2 weeks ago. I believe all the hair I lost at the beginning have come back (although they are all shorter length since I haven't cut it since then). I can also run a comb through my hair multiple times without seeing more than 2 hairs come out, as opposed to approx. 20-30 I could do 1 month ago.

Yo,

Definitely takes more than 2 months. I'm almost on 6 month mark and sitll shedding a little bit, But by the looks of it, things are improving a lot (hopefully). I think when people say maintain, it most definitely means after the 6 months or so that you continue losing your hair. So if you start now, you'll maintain what you have at the 6 month mark, not what you have now.

Ok, thanks.

I guess I am just a bit confused around the whole "shedding" concept. First of all, im not entirely sold on shedding just because I read these medical sights that say there is no scientific proof of shedding.

But secondly, does that mean that I am not going to grow back any of the hair that I have shed? Because I have lost significantly more hair over the past two months (since taking propecia) than I had over the previous months before that. But I guess I was just hoping that it would be worth it because I would end up growing back the hair that I had "shed". Does that make sense?
