Hey everyone,

It took me awhile to work up the nerve to post here, I'm just looking for some sincere advice on what to do with my hair. I'm 46, and I guess it's time to do something about this. I have lurked around for a couple of months and would really apprecitate any professional or personal advice.

I'm considering a hair transplant, I'm very nervous about drugs, (propecia, minoxidil, finasteride, etc) and even more worried about a hair transplant. I'm not really sure where to turn with this. I have to do some thing, though.

Based on your opinions, what would you guys do?
If I do a hair transplant, how many grafts do you think I might need?
Money is not an issue, I'm not rich but I can afford a hair transplant.

I live in the southeast u.s. and I understand that Dr. Cole is supposed to be very good.

You can see my former hairline in the attached pic by the suntan line of where my hair used to be.

I would sincerely appreciate ANY input.

Thanks.

man. i don't mean to disregard or downplay your worry, or your self consciousness about your hair, but.. you're 46? i would rip my finger off and swallow it if i was guaranteed to have that head of hair at 46. But, everyone is different and this stupid male pattern baldness effects everyone in different ways, at different ages.

here is my advice to you. if you are really worried about drugs, like propecia, then go see a hair transplant specialist. i don't know of good ones in your area, and i you are geniunely interested in this avenue, go to the "surgery" part of this forum and post the same pic. My guess, is that you would only need maybe a 1000 grafts or so to fill in a little bit of your temples and increase the density (provided you don't have crown loss).

if you think propecia is easier, and are scared of surgery go with it. its very safe, and will maintain what you have right now for a long time.

Thanks Trent,

I appreciate your honesty about my situation. It looks better in the pic than it is. You think about 1000 grafts? How do you feel about the diff between fue and strip?

Im worried about the sex drive thing and the long term commintment to propecia.

Propecia could very well help you maintain, if that is what you are going for. A hair transplant could fill in the gaps in your hair and recover your hairline.

Oh, and to have hair like yours at 46 I would take Trent8's finger out of his stool sample and eat it myself.

Read up as much as you can about the options that are out there so you can make the decision that is right for you.

By the way, the docs that perform your transplant will most likely put you on Propecia after the surgery. So you might as well start with Propecia, see how you handle it and how it works, and then think about alternatives.
