1mg of finasteride every other day vs .5 mg everyday?

Hey everyone, new to the forum, I've actually been on daily 1mg finasteride and nightly Rog for about 3 years with pretty successful results in maintaining my hair, no apparent side affects. Recently, though, I've been a little unsettled about the slight increase in media coverage about the finasteride side effects that have a chance of "not going away" and random forum stories where long-time patients had sides coming out of nowhere, so I'm considering cutting my dosage down to (possibly?) minimize side affects that may or may not creep at me down the road, don't really care about losing just a tad of hair.

I have a few questions, if anyone may have input, I'd really appreciate it...

a) So what do you guys feel the difference would be in 1mg pill every other day vs .5mg everyday? I understand there's a nearly flat dose-response at 1mg and above, and I hear the DHT prevention effect can linger up to 2 days. On that rationale, 1mg every 2 days is pretty much the same as 1mg everyday, and I'm not really changing what my body is doing much at all aside from saving some money. However, .5mg everyday will keep a constant stream of about 80% effectivness (and sides) at all times...but if the rationale of my last hypothesis is true at all, maybe I could take .5mg every two days. Anyone have any opinion on this?

b) Does anyone know or has had first-hand experience of someone with no side effects over a few years, then suddenly develop some? It sounds rare, but anything's possible in the body.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks guys!

It can take a week or two for DHT levels to get slowly back to normal after the last dose of finasteride.

Hi Bryan, are you the same Bryan in this post that I literally *just* read 5 minutes ago?

If so, wow! You've really been around awhile! Funny enough, you addressed most of my question in that question you answered 8 years ago. In the time since you answered in that thread, would you still say it's reasonable to reduce the amount I'm taking now just to "maintain" my hair since I'm satisfied with the regrowth I've had, hopefully reducing chances of side effects?

Thanks a ton, it's nice to talking to someone who's been at this awhile.

I'm honestly not sure what to say about that. I'm not sure if it's okay to reduce your dose to a "maintenance" level. You could try it, and see what happens...

doubt it makes any difference man.

Your DHT levels will probably scrape close to rock bottom regardless lol

I have been on finasteride for almost 8 months. One month ago I reduced my dosage to only taking my 1.25mg pills on Mon, Wed, and Fri vs everyday. I havent noticed any thinning or hair falling out what so ever. My sides have gone away.
