Hey

I'm 19 years old with a slightly receding hairline (which I can deal with right now). However, the hair at my temples (including the bit of hair comes just above the far edge of the eyebrow) is quite thin and at times hard to notice. (I have my sideburns, then once you travel a few cm up it gets thin.) This makes my hairline look worse as well. I'm pretty sure it isn't genetic either, since my older brother, though he is losing hair, still has the usual amount at the temples. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a single human being with really thin hair at temples while having a decent amount at the front of the hairline. Do you think this is a deficiency of some kind? Cos I don't think it's part of the usual male pattern baldness genetics thing. Is there any treatments you would recommend? I'd say my diet isn't too bad for my age although I could always eat more fruit and veg.

Anyone?

I'm thinking this could be to do with stress! You see, the last few years (from say 2003/2004 to mid 2007) I've had some personal anxiety issues which have affected me quite a bit. I think that might be the problem, because really I shouldn't be losing hair in this region! However, in the last few months things are better for me in my life (i.e. less anxiety, more relaxed about stuff) so I'll see how I get on in the near future.

Well, I would recommend you see a doctor or a derm to properly diagnose what you have. If you have male pattern baldness then you can start on one or all of the big three.

hey, im 21

same deal, i learnt to be more positive and accept the fact that one day i'll lose my hair. if you can accept that and deal with it now, any gains you get from products are a plus and you have no reason to get on with your life, be confident and just live. if its definate thinning and ur losing hair in the shower etc, ur most likely balding. Id suggest once the doctor or derm gives u the green light, get on some products - and give the products time.

If it helps at all, minoxidil/regaine was incredibly helpful for me thickening up this part of my hairline - far more so than any other part.

Thanks for the posts guys

To be honest, I know I have male pattern baldness. I have the M shaped front of the head, etc and I know its in the family, but I'm pretty damn certain that the loss of hair in my temple bit has nothing to do with genetics, so do hope this will grow back, but I have no idea. If I used minoxidil on this area, would it work do you think? I do have hair already in the temple bit, but it's just very thin compared to the rest...you can see the contrast....it's as if someone came with a razor and started messing about in that area!)

temples is where the hair usually goes first. and on the side you sleep more than the other side, from what i've seen and heard. (i actually was able to learn to sleep on both sides to prevent wrinkles....actually is quite good for that! and it is a better way of sleeping to, if you ask me....just takes some time getting used to. i read broads say they learned to sleep on their back....to me that just seems impossible.)
