I've been reading around the website and am not entirely sure how I should start out.. so looking for advice. I'm not sure how long ago it started (last Spring I seemed fine) but my hair is very thin now and has been falling out gradually for a while, I'm not 'noticeably bald' yet but it's a lot thinner and you can see the scalp.. all of my family has noticed it too and it's overall pretty devastating for me. I'd say the loss is occuring at the top of the head and not the sides or back.. or at least it's only noticeable on top for now. Should I start taking a DHT inhibitor or just a growth stimulant like Nizoral? Also, if anyone knows of any cheap websites to get the products.. would appreciate that too. I searched for Nizoral, it seems to be over the counter, is that right?

Nizoral by itself is unlikely to do much. Start with finasteride (Proscar/Propecia) and a good shampoo like T/Gel or Nizoral. You can add minoxidil (Rogaine) later if you need a boost.

After browsing the forum, I think I'm going to go with Proscar since it's cheaper and the same thing as Propecia.. does anyone know any cheap websites I can order the product from? I will be using Nizoral alongside... so just these two products at first.. unless anyone thinks there's a better route. Any recommended pill cutters for Proscar? I've never looked for one. =P

http://www.111drugstore.com for the Proscar. You can get a pill cutter at any drugstore (e.g. Eckerd, CVS, Rite Aid, etc.). Or, like everything else, you may buy it online. Here is the one I recommend: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod. ... LST-0-SRCH

Hey all! I forgot about posting my follow-up/resuts:

I've been taking proscar and at the end of the Spring semester (2005) my hair definitely decreased in hair loss [falling out] to the point where it was no longer noticeable to me, aesthetically, my hair looks fine pretty much, it definitely gave me results a lot faster than I expected, I was actually afraid the results would be too minimal and my hair would slowly all die/fall out... so far, so good, hopefully it'll stay this way indefinitely

Another thing, prior to getting onto the drug, I was emotionally devastated to the point where I didn't want to do anything because the one time I went out to a night club ALL my friends and everyone looked at me with that "WTF" look and even some vocally said... WTF happened! I was crushed, I had definitive circular areas throughout my scalp that were indicative of balding, there was no way to hide or cover it up, but since being on Proscar, those are no longer visible, so I imagine hair grew in the places it was lacking, I definitely don't have that head full of hair I had in High School, but it's well enough to the point where I do have confidence and I'm not constantly worried or paranoid about how my hair looks. I'd like to thank everyone for their help and wish everyone good luck in their hair loss endeavors :D I'm hoping with all these technological booms something better - more permanently effective comes along, but in the meanwhile, I'm enjoying being twenty. 8)

Bornthisway, do you know you can buy generic proscar from In House pharmacy. If you use this instead, you can get your monthly finasteride requirements for $6 a month. Just thought you might be interested.
